Client / Project: Multidisciplinary Engineering Consultancy | Supporting EPR Nuclear New Build Projects (HPC / Sizewell C)
About the Client:
Our client is an international multidisciplinary engineering consultancy delivering complex infrastructure across energy, transport, water, and the built environment. In the UK nuclear sector, they provide specialised civil, structural, and geotechnical design, safety analysis, and project management services for flagship nuclear new-build programmes.
Role Overview:
Supports Nuclear New Build projects with a focus on Nuclear Island buildings across Hinkley Point C, Sizewell C, and comparable nuclear infrastructure. The role combines advanced structural analysis and FEA design with technical coordination, multidisciplinary delivery leadership, and site execution support.
Key Responsibilities:
Structural Design & FEA: Design and analyse reinforced-concrete and structural steel elements for EPR nuclear power plant buildings. Prepare and independently check finite-element models using ANSYS APDL or equivalent analysis software.
Action & Load Assessments: Evaluate structural response against permanent, variable, dynamic/seismic effects, impact loads, environmental conditions, and temporary construction-sequence loads.
Code & Standards Compliance: Apply relevant design codes, nuclear industry standards, and project specifications, including Eurocodes and ETC-C where applicable.
Design Delivery & Governance: Produce and review auditable calculations, drawings, specifications, and design reports, maintaining full traceability and contributing to technical checking/approval processes.
Multidisciplinary Coordination: Provide technical direction across international design teams, partnering closely with engineering leads, BIM/CAD detailing teams, project managers, and site execution teams.
Candidate Requirements:
Education: Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (Master's degree preferred).
Core Technical Experience: Substantial experience in heavy reinforced-concrete structural design and finite-element analysis (ANSYS APDL or equivalent). Working knowledge of Eurocodes and detailed design transition into construction.
Desirable Criteria: Chartered Engineer status (CEng MIStructE / CEng MICE) or clear progress toward chartership; nuclear sector or safety-critical industry experience; knowledge of ETC-C design requirements for EPR plants.
Professional Attributes: Strong safety and quality focus, proactive ownership of complex technical work, and excellent cross-cultural team communication skills.
