We are working with a leading Lloyd’s Syndicate to recruit a hands-on Expense Actuals Accountant to join its finance team.

Reporting to the Expense Actuals Manager, this role will play a key part in delivering the month-end process, ensuring financial results are accurate, deadlines are met and insights are provided to the wider business.

Initially offered on a fixed-term contract basis, there is a realistic opportunity for the position to become permanent.

The Role

This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong finance professional who enjoys getting into the detail, investigating variances and taking ownership of financial deliverables. Working closely with the Expense Actuals Manager, you will support the smooth running of month-end while helping to maintain robust financial controls and reporting processes.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Supporting and running the month-end close process, ensuring accuracy and timely delivery of financial results.
• Coordinating and reviewing work completed by offshore finance teams, ensuring quality and adherence to established processes.
• Investigating expense variances, identifying discrepancies and understanding the underlying drivers behind movements.
• Preparing financial reports and insightful commentary to explain performance and highlight key issues.
• Owning balance sheet reconciliations, control attestations and associated financial control activities.
• Challenging reported figures, investigating anomalies and proactively resolving issues.
• Working closely with the Expense Actuals Manager to provide cross-cover during busy periods and support additional analytical work as required.
• The Ideal Candidate
• We are looking for a proactive, analytical individual with a strong grounding in month-end accounting and the confidence to take ownership of their work.

You will ideally have:

• Strong month-end accounting experience within a complex finance environment.
• Proven experience in balance sheet reconciliations, financial controls and reporting.
• The ability to investigate variances, interpret financial data and produce clear, meaningful commentary.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a natural curiosity to understand what the numbers are telling you.
• Experience reviewing work undertaken by offshore teams.
• The confidence to work independently, challenge discrepancies and drive issues through to resolution.
• The ability to work to tight deadlines and contribute effectively within a collaborative finance team.
• Availability to start at short notice, ideally immediately.

Industry Experience

• Experience within the Lloyd’s market or insurance sector would be highly advantageous. Candidates from the wider financial services sector will also be considered, particularly those with strong technical accounting, reporting and control experience.
