About the role
Are you looking for a new role as Associate Structural Engineer? We’re working with a well-established structural and civil engineering consultancy based in Gateshead, with a proud reputation for delivering high-quality engineering solutions across the North East and beyond. With a strong focus on collaborative working, technical excellence, and innovative design, they are now seeking an Associate Structural Engineer to join their growing team.
This is an exciting opportunity to step into a senior role where you’ll work closely with directors and senior engineers, contributing to a diverse portfolio of projects across residential, commercial, healthcare, and education sectors. You’ll play a key part in leading design delivery, managing client relationships, and supporting the development of junior engineers within a collaborative and ambitious team environment. This is a chance to have real influence within a respected practice, with a clear route to progress and help shape the future direction of the business.
We are looking for an experienced structural engineer with proven technical ability, leadership skills, and confidence in managing projects and client expectations. If you are driven, commercially aware, and eager to make your mark in a supportive consultancy, this role could be the perfect next step in your career.
What’s On Offer
- Opportunity to progress towards Director level within a supportive and ambitious consultancy.
- A chance to work on a wide variety of technically challenging and high-profile regional projects.
- Direct involvement in business development and strategy, not just design delivery.
- Support with professional development, including chartership mentoring and CPD opportunities.
- A positive and collaborative office culture with regular team events and social activities.
What You Need To Succeed
- Strong technical design experience across a variety of structural materials (steel, concrete, timber, masonry).
- Proficiency in structural analysis and design software (e.g. Tekla, Tedds, MasterSeries, Robot).
- Proven ability to manage projects from inception to completion, including client liaison and team coordination.
- Commercial awareness with an understanding of budgets, fees, and business development.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to mentor and support junior engineers.
- A proactive, problem-solving mindset and enthusiasm for contributing to the growth of the business.
- Chartered or near-Chartered status (IStructE or ICE preferred).
- MEng or BEng in Civil Engineering (or equivalent).
