About the role
We are looking for an Android Developer with strong systems/networking experience to help build an application.
We are looking for experience with:
- Kotlin and/or Java for Android
- Android application architecture and lifecycle
- Foreground/background services
- Android VpnService
- Packet capture, PCAP processing, TCP/UDP/IP/DNS/HTTP/TLS
- Application-to-network attribution using UID/package metadata
- SQLite/Room and local event storage
- REST/HTTP clients such as OkHttp/Retrofit
- Android permissions, package metadata and system APIs
- Building clear Android dashboards and activity views
- Integrating and modifying open-source Android components
Highly desirable experience includes:
- PCAPdroid or similar Android network-monitoring tools
- TLS interception / mitmproxy
- Certificate pinning and QUIC/HTTP3 behaviour
- Tracker and advertising-domain intelligence
- WebView, CookieManager, JavaScript or browser instrumentation
- Frida, Xposed/LSPosed or Android runtime instrumentation
- Static APK analysis using tools such as JADX
- Mobile privacy, fingerprinting or application-security research
The immediate goal is to develop a working Android prototype. This is a hands-on development role, so we are particularly interested in candidates who are comfortable working close to the Android networking stack and testing directly on physical devices.
We are particularly interested in people who are hard-working, proactive and comfortable taking ownership of technical problems. The project will involve experimentation, debugging, testing on physical Android devices and working through problems where there may not be an immediate off-the-shelf solution. We value developers who are persistent, practical and willing to learn quickly.
If you fulfil some or all of the above criteria and if interested, please send a brief summary of your Android experience together with links to relevant GitHub repositories, applications, security research or previous projects.
Initial contract is around 20 hours/week for 4 weeks, starting ASAP, with potential for extension.
