About the role
A growing independent accountancy practice in Preston is looking to appoint an Accounts Assistant Manager as it continues to expand its client base and team.
This is an ideal step for an experienced Senior Accountant who feels ready to move into management, or an existing Assistant Manager looking for more autonomy and progression.
You'll manage your own portfolio of predominantly owner-managed businesses, work closely with Managers and Directors, and take greater responsibility for both client relationships and developing junior members of the team.
The Role
You'll have a broad role combining portfolio management, accounts, tax and advisory work, including:
- Managing a portfolio of owner-managed businesses
- Preparing and reviewing statutory accounts under FRS 102 and FRS 105
- Reviewing corporation tax computations
- Producing and reviewing management accounts
- Acting as a key point of contact for clients
- Managing deadlines, workflow and WIP across your portfolio
- Reviewing work prepared by Seniors and Trainees
- Coaching and developing junior members of the team
- Supporting clients with cloud accounting and improving their finance processes
- Identifying opportunities to provide additional services
- Providing proactive commercial and accounting advice
- Working closely with Managers and Directors on more complex client matters
- Supporting the continued growth and development of the Accounts team
The emphasis is on becoming a trusted adviser to your clients, rather than simply managing their year-end compliance.
The Candidate
You'll ideally have:
- ACA or ACCA qualification, although strong QBE candidates will be considered
- Several years' experience within a UK accountancy practice
- Strong statutory accounts and corporation tax experience
- Experience managing or taking significant responsibility for a client portfolio
- Confidence reviewing the work of junior accountants
- Strong client-facing and relationship-building skills
- Experience with Xero, QuickBooks or similar cloud accounting platforms
- Good commercial awareness
- The confidence to provide advice rather than simply process work
- Ambition to progress towards Accounts Manager level
What's On Offer
- Performance-related bonus
- Hybrid working
- Flexible working hours
- Generous annual leave
- Company pension
- Professional subscriptions
- Ongoing CPD and technical training
- Support with leadership and management development
- Regular social events
- Strong work-life balance
- Clear progression towards Accounts Manager and beyond
