If you are a Project Lead or Project Manager who runs towards the problem nobody has solved yet, why not join us in Abingdon, Oxfordshire, and help take breakthrough semiconductor metrology technology from first sketch to customer site.
The chart for what we’re building doesn’t exist yet. That’s the point.
We are a growing team of over 170 talented people, backed by world-class investors including Applied Ventures, the strategic venture arm of Applied Materials. Over the next 6 to 12 months we expect to create several new Project Lead and Project Manager roles as our products and programmes expand, and we want to know who you are before they open.
We are looking for ambitious and adaptable navigators. People who set a course into uncharted waters with only part of the map, make the call anyway, and bring the whole crew with them. People who adjust the plan as the water changes and keep delivering ever-evolving technology to customers all the while. If you’d rather sail than study the chart for months, we’d love to hear from you.
This could be you if…
- You make the decision with the information you have, not the information you wish you had, and you adjust as the picture sharpens
- Plans change and you stay steady, clear and calm when the pressure is on
- You say what you think (diplomatically), up and down the organisation, and back every decision with reasons when it is challenged
- You bring people with you, from engineers and manufacturing to commercial teams and senior leaders
- You find the way forward on the journey, not before it starts
This probably isn’t the role for you if you need all the history, all the data and all the time to review it before you move.
What you’ll be doing
- Lead the planning, delivery and course corrections of complex technical projects and programmes, from concept through to customer
- Build and maintain plans, schedules, budgets and risk registers that your team actually uses
- Bring multidisciplinary teams across engineering, operations, manufacturing and commercial functions together behind one direction
- Manage risks, dependencies and change before they become problems, and make the call when the data runs out
- Report and communicate clearly with senior stakeholders and your crew, and push back when it matters
- Coach and mentor less experienced project professionals while continuously improving how we run projects
Education and experience
A professional project management qualification such as PRINCE2 Practitioner, PMP, MSP or APM Chartered Project Professional or [N] years’ relevant industry experience delivering complex technical projects
Skills and experience we’re looking for:
- A track record delivering complex technical projects in engineering, R&D, scientific instrumentation, manufacturing, semiconductor or technology environments (Essential)
- Experience of scale-up or high-intensity, quick-turnaround environments, from start-ups to Formula 1 or similar
- Leading cross-functional teams and managing multiple stakeholders at every level
- Confident decision-making with incomplete information, and the judgement to change course as you learn
- Comfortable with ambiguity, and steady when priorities shift
- Clear, persuasive communication, able to challenge up and down and justify your decisions under pressure
- Project and programme management methodologies, such as Agile, Waterfall or Hybrid
- Planning, scheduling, budgeting and resource management
- Risk management, issue resolution and change control
- Project management software and reporting tools
We’d love to see:
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
- A background in AFM, automation or advanced electronics manufacturing
- Experience of mentoring or building project capability in a growing business
