Facility Manager

Astute’s Power Team has been exclusively appointed by MVV Environment to recruit a Facility Manager for its flagship Energy from Waste power station, currently under construction in Wisbech, Cambridgeshire. Once operational in 2029, the plant will process over 625,000 tonnes of residual waste a year and generate over 50MW of low-carbon energy, enough to power more than 150,000 homes.

This permanent role is site-based and offers a competitive salary plus bonus and private medical insurance. You’ll lead full site mobilisation, overseeing construction and commissioning through to handover and operation.

Responsibilities of the Facility Manager

Reporting to the Project Director, you will:

• Guide the plant through construction and commissioning to a successful handover, taking part in construction, commissioning and start-up activities
• Lead plant mobilisation, including recruiting all site staff, building the new team and setting clear objectives to deliver the plant’s goals
• Liaise with key stakeholders, including the Local Authority, Environment Agency, HSE and the EPC contractor, identifying build issues and attending regular construction meetings
• Support the wider engineering and project teams with technical issues during start-up
• Operate the plant within the specified contract, achieving KPIs and maximising availability and efficiency to deliver cost savings and improve profitability
• Implement and maintain the management systems needed to run the plant, identifying process improvements and resolving the root causes of issues as they arise
• Oversee CAPEX planning, including budgeting, forecasting and facility master planning
• Ensure full site compliance on health, safety, environment and quality, including permits, audits, inspections and ISO 45001, ISO 9001 and ISO 14001
• Ensure the health, safety and welfare of all staff, support staff and subcontractors across the Energy from Waste facility and Materials Treatment Plant

Required qualifications and experience

To be considered, you must have:

• 10+ years’ experience in power generation or Energy from Waste facilities
• 5+ years’ experience in a senior leadership or plant management role
• Engineering qualification at ONC, HNC or HND level or above
• Working knowledge of CDM, PSSR, LOLER, PUWER, ISO standards and environmental permitting
• Experience managing multidisciplinary engineering and operational teams

Desirable experience

It would be an advantage, but is not essential, to have:

• Experience of plant mobilisation, or of seeing a plant through commissioning to handover
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Chemical Engineering, or equivalent
• Chartered Engineer status, or working towards it
• IOSH or NEBOSH qualification
