About the role
We’re looking for a Senior User Researcher with strong quantitative skills to join our centralised research team in Product Design & Research. You’ll focus on our Monetisation and Content clusters, where your work will shape the buying experience, the first 30 days after purchase, Yoto Club and how families discover content in our card store. You’ll combine interviews, usability testing and diary studies with survey and behavioural data, taking each study from defining the methods to running the analysis and making sure the insights land with stakeholders.
About Yoto
Yoto is a screen-free interactive audio platform for kids. We make carefully connected audio players that kids control, with no microphones, cameras or ads. We have a catalogue of audio that inspires creative play and learning with 1,000+ titles in our card store from top creators, publishers and labels - think Disney, Marvel, Roald Dahl and Universal Music. We also create Yoto Originals like BrainBots.
Voted the 14th fastest-growing private software technology company in Britain in The Sunday Times 100 Tech 2025; and named the 94th fastest-growing company in Europe in the prestigious FT1000.
Ranked 9th in Fast Company's Most Innovative Companies in 2024; and featured in the Sifted 100 fastest-growing startups across the UK&I by revenue growth.
Featured in Bloomberg’s 25 UK startups to watch in 2023; and ranked second fastest growing tech company in the UK in the Deloitte Fast50.
Named one of TIME Magazine’s Top 100 Inventions of 2020.
We’re over 200 employees spread across the world.. and growing!
We’re on a mission to be the soundtrack of childhood, and help families on their own unique adventures. By creating products that inspire independent play, we help families discover and grow with an inspiring world of audio - and we would like you to help us achieve it!
Yoto’s Product Design & Research Team
Product Design & Research at Yoto exists to deeply understand children and families and translate those insights into thoughtful, trusted, screen-free experiences across hardware, software, and content. Research at Yoto is already fairly democratised, with designers actively involved in learning from customers, and we’re building a stronger, more credible research practice as we grow. You’ll be part of our centralised research team, alongside our Lead User Researcher and Research Operations partner, and you’ll report to our Lead User Researcher. Your main focus is the Monetisation and Content clusters: our core e-commerce experience, Yoto Club and subscriptions, and the way families find content.
What you’ll be doing:
Focus on research for the Monetisation and Content clusters. You’ll work with their design and product leads to agree what we need to learn and in what order.
Study the buying experience from the family’s side: how people find, choose and buy players, cards, bundles and digital content, how checkout, delivery and order updates feel, and what happens in the first 30 days after purchase.
Understand Yoto Club: what makes it valuable to families, what it’s like to join, and how we communicate and deliver that value through the product.
Research how families find the right content for a child: browsing and filters, age guidance, recommendations and upsell moments, and what gives a parent the confidence to buy more.
Design and run a range of studies, from interviews, concept and usability testing to diary studies and surveys. Use quantitative methods when they’re the right fit, and run the analysis yourself (for example correlation, regression or driver analysis).
Work with the data team on experience measures and A/B tests, and present what you find to designers, product managers and senior leaders.
Expand the reach of research by supporting others to do it: help designers and product managers plan and run good research themselves, and brief and work closely with agencies for outsourced work
What you’ll bring:
Significant experience researching digital or hardware products with a product team, and evidence that your research changed what was designed or built. You’ve studied how people actually behave with a product (usability testing, interviews, diary studies), not only what they think of a brand or a price.
Strong quantitative skills. You design surveys, choose scales and sample sizes, and run correlation, regression and driver analysis yourself in a statistical package (for example R, SPSS or Python), with sound judgement about their limits (self-report, response bias, small samples, correlation versus causation).
Comfort working with behavioural data, including reading funnels, cohorts and experiment results, and joining them to survey responses.
Strong qualitative skills, with good judgement about when to go deep, when to go broad, and when to move fast.
Experience working independently as a researcher across more than one team or product area, managing competing priorities, stakeholders and expectations.
Confidence in influencing senior stakeholders and communicating insight clearly, including challenging assumptions and navigating disagreement with credibility and empathy.
Nice to have: experience researching products for children, families or education.
Nice to have: experience researching across the subscription lifecycle (acquisition, onboarding and retention) or willingness-to-pay.
Salary: £70,000 - £80,000 based on experience
How we use AI at Yoto
We think using AI to work smarter is part of the job.
At Yoto, we use AI to help us move faster and reduce manual work so we can focus our time on creativity, problem-solving and impact. We don’t want to use AI to cut corners - it’s about smart usage that makes space for the work that really matters. Our intention is to be thoughtful about how we use AI. We treat its outputs as a starting point, not the final answer, and we take care to use it responsibly - especially given the trust families place in Yoto.
We don’t expect everyone to be an AI expert, but we do expect people to be curious, to experiment, and to keep improving how they work. If you prefer to do everything manually, you might find our pace and expectations challenging.
The magic at Yoto comes from people working here, not their prompts. AI should help us move faster, not change what makes working here great.
What you can expect from Yoto:
Flexibility: Hybrid working - expectation of 1 day a week on average in our London office, but you are welcome to come in more than this. How you meet the minimum expectation is up to you, to ensure you're happy and productive in your role whilst also getting that vital face time with your colleagues. Take advantage of our ‘work from anywhere’ policy to work from a different location for up to 6 weeks every year. Summer Hours policy to use between the months of June and August.
Financial: Receive Income Protection, covering long term sickness for up to 2 years and company sick pay that increases with length of service. Life Assurance cover from day one of your service. Workplace Pension offering up to to 4% employer contributions, following probation. Generous employee referral bonus scheme.
