About the role
We are recruiting for an SEN Teaching Assistant to work in a Primary School based in Cirencester. This SEN Teaching Assistant role will involve working within a Year 4 class, providing dedicated support to a pupil with behavioural needs who is currently working at Key Stage 1 level. The role will involve supporting the pupil with their learning, managing behaviour positively, and helping to create a safe, engaging, and inclusive classroom environment.
The role will involve providing individualised support to help the pupil access learning activities, remain engaged in lessons, and develop their confidence and independence. The successful candidate will be patient, resilient, proactive, and nurturing, with the ability to build positive relationships with pupils and support their behavioural, emotional, and academic development. The school is looking for someone who can work collaboratively with the class teacher to adapt learning activities and provide consistent support throughout the school day.
This role is full-time, starting in November and continuing until July 2027. The successful candidate will have previous experience working within a primary school setting, ideally supporting pupils with additional needs and behavioural difficulties. Experience adapting learning activities to support pupils working below age-related expectations, particularly at Key Stage 1 level, would be highly beneficial.
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, your responsibilities will include:
-
Providing dedicated one-to-one support to a pupil within a Year 4 classroom.
-
Supporting the pupil with their learning across the curriculum, adapting activities to meet their current ability and working level.
-
Helping the pupil access Key Stage 1 learning activities while supporting their progress towards individual learning targets.
-
Supporting positive behaviour management strategies and promoting appropriate classroom behaviour.
-
Using a calm, patient, and consistent approach to help the pupil manage their emotions and behaviour.
-
Encouraging the pupil to remain focused, engage with lessons, and participate in classroom activities.
-
Adapting learning resources and providing additional guidance to support the pupil's individual learning needs.
-
Building a positive and trusting relationship with the pupil to encourage confidence, independence, and engagement.
-
Supporting the pupil with emotional regulation and developing appropriate social skills.
-
Working closely with the class teacher and other members of staff to implement consistent approaches to learning and behaviour.
-
Helping the pupil develop their communication, social interaction, and problem-solving skills.
-
Supporting transitions between activities and maintaining a structured, predictable learning environment.
-
Contributing to an inclusive classroom environment where the pupil feels safe, supported, and encouraged to achieve their potential.
To be successful in this SEN Teaching Assistant role, you will need:
-
Previous experience working within a Primary School setting.
-
Experience supporting pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN) or additional learning needs.
-
Experience supporting children with behavioural difficulties and implementing positive behaviour management strategies.
-
The ability to adapt learning activities to support pupils working below age-related expectations.
-
A patient, resilient, and nurturing approach to supporting children's learning and behaviour.
-
The ability to remain calm and consistent when managing challenging behaviour.
-
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
-
The ability to build positive relationships with pupils and staff.
-
The ability to encourage pupil engagement, independence, and emotional regulation.
-
A good understanding of inclusive classroom practices and individualised learning support.
