Shift Operations Technician

Astute People’s Power Team is exclusively appointed by South Clyde Energy Centre to recruit a Shift Operations Technician for its new build Energy from Waste power station.

The plant is under construction and will process up to 350,000 tonnes of waste a year, generating power for up to 70,000 homes. With commercial operation due by the end of 2026, you’ll join the Operations Team in time for full plant commissioning, training and mobilisation.

Responsibilities of the Shift Operations Technician

Reporting to the Shift Team Leader, you will:

• Operate the plant safely and efficiently during normal running, start-ups, shutdowns and emergencies
• Monitor the plant through the distributed control system (DCS), maintaining fuel supply to the boiler, steam pressure and power output in line with contractual obligations
• Monitor plant emissions to comply with the Environmental Permit, reporting any issues to the Shift Team Leader
• Carry out front line maintenance, plant inspections, fault finding and fault reporting
• Support the maintenance team as required
• Help develop operating procedures
• Work within the company’s safe systems of work, EHSSQ systems and relevant legislation

Required qualifications and experience

To be considered, you must have:

• 3+ years’ process operations experience
• Control room experience, ideally on steam plant including boilers, heat recovery steam generators, turbines and associated equipment
• Experience working with SCADA, PLC and DCS systems
• Practical knowledge of process plant gained in Energy from Waste, Biomass, Coal, CCGT, Nuclear, Petrochemical, Oil and Gas or a similar industry
• A Level 3 engineering qualification (C&G, ONC, NVQ or SVQ) or higher, or a lower qualification with extensive experience

Desirable experience

It would be an advantage, but is not essential, to have:

• Experience of plant mobilisation and commissioning
• Steam raising plant experience
• A recognised engineering apprenticeship
• IOSH or equivalent, with knowledge of safe systems of work, LOTO, isolations, SOPs and RAMS
