About the role
We're looking for a Financial Controller to own the firms financial reporting, controls and compliance as we scale across the UK and US. This is a hands-on role, working closely with the founders, our external accountants and the wider leadership team. You'll have the opportunity to build the finance function of a fast-growing SaaS business and give the founders and board the numbers they need to make decisions. As the firm continues to grow, the role is likely to develop too, so we're looking for someone who is comfortable taking ownership, bringing ideas and getting involved.
What You'll Be Doing
Financial reporting
- Run the month-end close and produce monthly management accounts.
- Prepare board and investor reporting.
- Track performance against budget and explain variances.
- Prepare statutory accounts with our external accountants.
- Manage VAT, payroll, corporation tax and R&D tax credit claims.
- Put in place and maintain controls over payments, approvals and spending.
- Produce cash flow forecasts and manage cash across GBP and USD accounts.
- Oversee customer billing and collections, and payments to suppliers and contractors.
- Support budgeting, financial planning and investor due diligence.
- Work closely with the founders, HR and team leads on budgets and headcount.
- Share ideas and contribute to wider company priorities.
- Help improve processes and ways of working as the business grows.
What We're Looking For
We're looking for someone who is rigorous, hands-on and commercially minded, and comfortable working in a growing business where things are still being built.
You'll ideally have:
- A professional accounting qualification (ACA).
- Experience as a Financial Controller or in a senior finance role at a growing technology business.
- Experience with Xero or a similar accounting system.
- Experience managing multi-currency accounts and international payments.
- Strong Excel and financial modelling skills.
- Close attention to detail and the ability to explain financial information clearly to non-finance colleagues.
- Experience of SaaS revenue recognition and subscription metrics.
- Experience preparing R&D tax credit claims.
- Experience paying international contractors.
- Experience supporting a fundraising due diligence process.
- c. £97,000 per annum, depending on experience.
- 25 days' annual leave, plus UK bank holidays.
- Bupa private medical and dental cover following successful completion of probation.
- Company pension through NEST, including employer contributions.
- A flexible, hybrid working environment.
- The opportunity to have a visible impact in a growing legal tech business.
- A collaborative team with direct access to senior leadership and founders.
- Plenty of opportunity to grow your role and responsibilities as the firm scales.
