About the role
Assistant Management Accountant – St Columb - £28k- £33k – Full time – Permanent
If you enjoy working with numbers, spotting things others might miss and understanding what sits behind the figures, this could be a great next step in your finance career.
Trial Balance Consulting is exclusively working with an established organisation in Cornwall to recruit an Assistant Management Accountant. This is a varied opportunity to join a finance team where you'll get involved in budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting and analysis, helping colleagues understand the numbers and make informed decisions.
You don't need to be a fully qualified accountant or have managed the entire month end process independently. What's important is that you have a good grounding in finance, are confident using Excel and enjoy getting into the detail.
What will you be doing?
- Helping monitor budgets and forecasts, comparing actual income and expenditure against expectations.
- Investigating variances, checking figures and preparing clear explanations of what the numbers show.
- Maintaining financial information within budgeting and reporting systems.
- Supporting annual budgets and regular forecasting exercises.
- Assisting with month end activities, including coding checks, journals, accruals and reconciliations.
- Preparing financial schedules, reports and supporting information for meetings and audits.
- Working with colleagues to resolve queries, improve reporting and ensure financial information is accurate and reliable.
What are we looking for?
You'll ideally have experience working in a finance team or accountancy practice, with a good understanding of everyday accounting principles and financial systems.
You'll also bring:
- Good Excel skills and confidence working with spreadsheets and financial data.
- An analytical approach, with the ability to investigate discrepancies and explain what you've found.
- Experience with reconciliations, journals or other month end tasks.
- An organised, methodical approach and the confidence to ask questions when something doesn't look right.
- Experience supporting budgets, forecasts or management accounts would be useful, as would AAT Level 3 or above. However, we're interested in practical ability and potential, not just qualifications or job titles.
You might already be an Accounts Assistant, Assistant Accountant, Finance Officer or Finance Analyst looking for a role that gives you more exposure to financial analysis and business planning.
If you're looking for a role that takes you beyond transactional finance and gives you the opportunity to build your analytical skills, I'd be happy to have a confidential conversation.
