Are you an experienced freight forwarding professional looking for your next opportunity in international logistics? This is an exciting opportunity for an organised, commercially minded Export Coordinator to play a key role in a busy export and cross-trade operation, coordinating international shipments and delivering excellent customer service.
Working across sea, air and road freight, you'll take ownership of export bookings from initial enquiry through to delivery, ensuring shipments are managed efficiently, cost-effectively and in line with relevant regulations. You'll build strong relationships with customers, overseas agents, carriers and logistics partners while helping the wider business identify opportunities, strengthen existing accounts and drive commercial success.
This role would suit someone who enjoys a varied, hands-on position where attention to detail, problem-solving and a proactive approach make a genuine difference.
What you'll be doingAs an Export Coordinator, you'll be responsible for managing day-to-day export operations, keeping shipments moving smoothly and ensuring customers receive a reliable, responsive service.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Managing export bookings and enquiries from start to finish, prioritising freight forwarding activities and ensuring customer requirements are met, and where possible exceeded.
- Coordinating multimodal export shipments across sea, air and road freight, including collections, overseas deliveries and communication with international agents.
- Preparing, checking and maintaining accurate customs paperwork, export documentation and shipment records to meet relevant regulatory and compliance requirements.
- Liaising with third-party logistics providers, carriers, customs authorities, overseas agents and internal departments to ensure the smooth movement of goods.
- Negotiating competitive rates and terms with suppliers and logistics partners, balancing cost-efficiency with service quality.
- Supporting incoming sales leads and contributing to the development of new business and existing customer relationships across the Export and Cross Trade department.
- Working closely with the Branch Manager and colleagues to maximise departmental performance, profitability and opportunities for growth.
- Creating and maintaining shipments within LBase, ensuring all job costs are accurately recorded and information is kept up to date.
- Processing export and cross-trade invoices promptly and liaising with the Accounts team to resolve sales or cost queries.
- Providing accurate shipment updates, data entry and logistical support to assist B2B sales activities and wider commercial objectives.
- Contributing ideas to improve supply chain efficiency, streamline processes and reduce lead times.
- Supporting colleagues during busy periods and providing holiday and absence cover to maintain a consistent service.
- Assisting with the training and development of new team members when required.
We're looking for an Export Coordinator who combines strong operational knowledge with a customer-focused mindset and a keen eye for detail.
Ideally, you'll bring:
- Previous experience in export freight forwarding, export operations or a similar international logistics role.
- Knowledge of sea, air and road freight processes, including export bookings, collections, overseas deliveries and customs documentation.
- Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and keep multiple shipments on track.
- Excellent communication skills and the confidence to liaise with customers, suppliers, overseas agents and internal stakeholders.
- Commercial awareness, including the ability to negotiate rates, monitor costs and identify opportunities to improve profitability.
- Good IT and data-entry skills, with experience using freight management systems such as LBase an advantage.
- A proactive, solutions-focused approach to resolving queries and overcoming operational challenges.
- The flexibility to support colleagues and contribute to the wider success of the department.
This is an opportunity to join an international freight operation where your contribution will extend beyond processing bookings. You'll have the chance to build valuable industry relationships, support business development, improve operational performance and play an important part in delivering a high-quality service to customers.
If you enjoy the pace and variety of freight forwarding and want a role that combines operational responsibility with customer contact and commercial involvement, this could be an excellent next step.
