Your new school
I am working with a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Birmingham that is committed to providing a safe, supportive and nurturing learning environment for every pupil. The school is seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to provide consistent 1:1 support to a child with autism.
Your new role
You will support a pre-verbal Year 2 pupil with autism on a 1:1 basis, helping them to remain safe, regulated and engaged throughout the school day. The pupil spends much of their time in a resource-based-style room but may attempt to leave the designated area and access other rooms, including the staff room and a classroom attended by their sibling. You will therefore need to be consistently vigilant, attentive and proactive while using a calm, reassuring approach.

- Use appropriate communication strategies to support a pre-verbal pupil.
- Maintain close supervision and respond quickly if the pupil attempts to leave the learning area.
- Support with intimate care respectfully and in line with school safeguarding procedures.
- Use positive handling strategies when required and in accordance with school policy and training.
- Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO and wider school team.
- Encourage engagement, routine and positive development in a safe learning environment.
What you'll need to succeed
- Level 2 or Level 3 Supporting teaching & learning
