Are you an experienced Attendance Officer who is passionate about improving student attendance, removing barriers to learning and helping young people reach their full potential?
We are working with a successful, inclusive secondary school in Tottenham to recruit an experienced Attendance Officer to join its dedicated pastoral and student support team.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who understands the importance of attendance in education and can combine strong administrative skills with a proactive, supportive approach to working with students and families.
About the School
This well-established, diverse secondary school has a strong community ethos and a clear commitment to ensuring every student has the opportunity to succeed. The school places high expectations on its students while recognising the importance of providing the right support to help them overcome challenges and achieve their ambitions.
With a focus on student welfare, personal development and building positive relationships with parents and carers, the school recognises that good attendance is fundamental to academic progress and future success.
You will be joining a team that values collaboration, inclusion and early intervention, where your work will have a direct impact on students' engagement with education and their long-term outcomes.
The Role
As Attendance Officer, you will play a vital role in monitoring and improving attendance across the school. Working closely with pastoral staff, senior leaders, students and families, you will help identify concerns early and ensure appropriate action is taken.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Monitoring daily attendance, punctuality and absence records, ensuring information is accurate and up to date.
- Identifying attendance patterns and following up on unexplained or persistent absences.
- Contacting parents and carers to discuss attendance concerns and encourage improvement.
- Working collaboratively with Heads of Year, pastoral teams and senior leaders to implement attendance strategies.
- Supporting early intervention for students at risk of persistent or severe absence.
- Maintaining accurate records of communication, interventions and attendance meetings.
- Arranging and supporting attendance meetings with parents and carers where required.
- Helping identify barriers to attendance and working with families and relevant professionals to address them.
- Preparing attendance reports and monitoring the impact of interventions.
- Maintaining confidentiality and following the school's safeguarding and child protection procedures.
The Ideal Candidate
Previous experience working in an Attendance Officer role is essential.
The successful candidate will also have:
- A proven understanding of school attendance procedures, attendance monitoring and follow-up processes.
- Experience using school management information systems to record and analyse attendance data.
- Excellent communication skills and the confidence to engage professionally with parents, carers and colleagues.
- The ability to handle sensitive conversations firmly, fairly and empathetically.
- Strong organisational skills and excellent attention to detail.
- A proactive approach to identifying concerns and following through on agreed actions.
- The ability to work effectively as part of a wider pastoral and safeguarding team.
- A genuine commitment to improving outcomes for young people.
Why Apply?
- Join a diverse and inclusive secondary school with a strong community focus.
- Make a meaningful difference to students' attendance, engagement and academic progress.
