About the role

KL Talent Solutions' client is looking for a Depot Driver Team Leader to lead a team of drivers, ensuring timely and safe transportation of goods while maintaining high standards of customer service. This role requires excellent leadership skills, a strong understanding of transportation regulations, and a commitment to safety. Key Responsibilities: Team Leadership:
  • Supervising and motivating a team of drivers to ensure they meet performance targets and objectives.
  • Inducting, training, and conducting 1-2-1 meetings to ensure process compliance and support for the site.
  • Providing training and guidance to drivers to enhance their skills and performance.
  • Scheduling shifts and routes to optimise efficiency and meet customer demands.
Operational Management:
  • Providing Optimoroute and telematics support for the depot, ensuring all drivers represent the business professionally.
  • Collaborating with driver agencies to ensure full coverage for daily runs, including timesheet checks and verification.
  • Coordinating with the Transport Planner to ensure timely pickups and deliveries.
  • Monitoring driver performance and vehicle maintenance to ensure compliance with company policies and regulations.
  • Addressing any issues raised by drivers and providing timely resolutions.
  • Ensuring products are packed safely and securely to prevent damage during transit.
  • Managing returns and collections at the depot using bespoke computer systems.
Safety and Compliance:
  • Leading depot operations with a strong focus on health and safety for all colleagues.
  • Enforcing safety protocols and ensuring drivers adhere to all traffic laws and regulations.
  • Conducting regular inspections of vehicles to ensure they meet safety standards.
  • Supporting site compliance by completing vehicle and safety checks.
  • Investigating and reporting any accidents or incidents involving company vehicles.
  • Ensuring all deliveries are completed with exceptional OTIF control through accurate loading, unloading, and collection of all orders.
  • Overseeing stock verification and depot metrics to maintain accuracy and compliance.
  • Ensuring all drivers operate vehicles in line with statutory and legislative regulations, including licence checks.
  • Maintaining depot and vehicle cleanliness to uphold business standards.
  • Conducting daily vehicle checks and enforcing a strict no-smoking policy in company vehicles.
  • Safely handling, moving, loading, unloading, and managing all products and equipment.
  • Using systems, reports, and driving applications to ensure compliance with required driving standards.
  • Ensuring appropriate use of depot equipment, including vehicles, phones, computers, and warehouse management systems.
Company Objectives:
  • Meeting business and individual key performance indicators.
  • Providing KPI support through data entry on agreed system sheets.
  • Contributing to departmental service level achievements and targets.
  • Managing depot costs, including consumables, fuel consumption, and overall cost control.
  • Identifying and resolving potential risks, problems, or product defects as they arise.
Customer Service:
  • Demonstrating exceptional driving standards and compliance at all times.
  • Maintaining a high level of customer satisfaction by addressing inquiries and concerns professionally.
  • Identifying opportunities for service improvements and implementing appropriate measures.
  • Ensuring the team is always professional, courteous, and supportive toward customers.
  • Actively participating in continuous process improvement initiatives to enhance service levels, improve OTIF delivery, and reduce depot costs.
Experience Required:
  • Proven experience as an MHE operator.
  • Experience in a similar role, preferably in the transport or logistics industry.
  • Strong knowledge of transport regulations and safety standards.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong computer skills and familiarity with transportation management systems.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
