About the role
Location: Aldershot, Hampshire
Salary: £45,000 – £55,000 DOE
Job Type: Permanent, Full-Time
Working Arrangement: Office-based with UK and international travel (approximately 25–30%)
The Opportunity
We’re recruiting for a Technical Sales Engineer to join an established British manufacturer specialising in safety-critical equipment and engineered life-support systems.
With an international customer base spanning aerospace, defence, oil and gas, emergency response and industrial safety, the business develops and manufactures specialist products designed to protect people operating in some of the world’s most demanding environments.
This is an excellent opportunity for a technically minded professional who enjoys working directly with customers, explaining complex products and supporting commercial teams with specialist engineering expertise.
This isn’t a traditional, target-driven sales position. The emphasis is on technical product knowledge, customer engagement, demonstrations, training and providing the expertise needed to support successful sales.
The position offers genuine variety, international exposure and the opportunity to build a long-term career within a specialist engineering business.
Key Responsibilities
-
Provide technical expertise and product support to the sales team throughout the sales process.
-
Deliver technical presentations, product demonstrations and customer briefings.
-
Attend customer sites across the UK and internationally to provide technical guidance and support.
-
Work closely with the Sales Director and commercial team to understand customer requirements and support business development opportunities.
-
Provide pre-sales and post-sales technical assistance to customers, distributors and end users.
-
Deliver product training to customers and members of the global sales team.
-
Support product evaluations, testing and technical investigations.
-
Liaise with engineering and product development teams to communicate customer feedback and support product improvements.
-
Develop a comprehensive understanding of specialist safety and life-support equipment, its applications and relevant technical standards.
-
Build strong working relationships with OEMs, distributors, commercial partners and end users.
About You
We’re looking for someone who combines a strong technical understanding with excellent communication skills and a genuine interest in working with customers.
You may already be working in technical sales, applications engineering, product support or a similar customer-facing engineering position. Equally, you could be an engineer looking to move into a more commercially focused role without leaving the technical side of engineering behind.
Essential requirements:
-
A technical, engineering or product-focused background, supported by relevant qualifications or practical experience.
-
The ability to understand complex technical products and communicate their features and applications clearly.
-
Strong interpersonal, presentation and communication skills.
-
Confidence delivering technical demonstrations, presentations and customer training.
-
A practical, solutions-focused approach to technical challenges.
-
The ability to work independently while supporting wider commercial and engineering teams.
-
A willingness to travel throughout the UK and internationally, including occasional time away from home and weekend commitments.
-
The ability to commute regularly to the Aldershot office.
Desirable Experience
Experience within any of the following sectors would be particularly advantageous:
-
Aerospace, defence or military equipment
-
PPE, respiratory protection or breathing apparatus
-
Industrial safety and life-support systems
-
Fire and rescue or emergency services
-
Oil and gas, petrochemical or offshore equipment
-
Marine, maritime or hazardous-environment equipment
-
Mechanical, electrical or instrumentation engineering
-
Specialist engineered products, OEMs or technical distribution
Experience in technical training, product demonstrations, applications engineering or customer-facing technical support would also be highly relevant.
Direct experience in respiratory protection or safety equipment is not essential. We’re equally interested in applicants from other technical industries who demonstrate strong product knowledge, commercial awareness and the ability to engage confidently with customers.
What’s on Offer?
-
£45,000 – £55,000 basic salary, depending on experience.
-
Permanent position with an established UK engineering manufacturer.
-
International travel, representing specialist engineered products and supporting customers globally.
-
Exposure to safety-critical technologies across multiple industries.
-
A varied role combining technical expertise, customer engagement, product development and commercial support.
-
The opportunity to become a recognised technical specialist within the business.
-
Long-term career development within a specialist international engineering environment.
