About the role
Senior Automation Engineer
Salary: Up to £65,000
Location: Remote, with one day per quarter in either the Bradford or Ellesmere Port office
The Role
We’re looking for an experienced Senior Automation Engineer to take ownership of and improve a clients automated testing approach. This is a hands-on technical role for someone who has built and enhanced automation frameworks, knows what good looks like, and is ready to take greater ownership of strategy and direction.
You’ll work closely with Engineering, Quality Engineering and Product teams to improve test coverage, strengthen CI/CD integration and drive a proactive approach to quality. You’ll also mentor colleagues, influence best practice and explore how AI can improve testing effectiveness.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and continuously improve automation frameworks and testing strategy.
- Develop and maintain automated tests using Playwright and TypeScript.
- Build and enhance API testing and CI/CD integration.
- Identify gaps, prioritise improvements and drive initiatives independently.
- Collaborate with Engineering, QE and Product to embed quality throughout the development lifecycle.
- Mentor colleagues and promote automation best practices.
- Explore opportunities to use AI to improve testing efficiency and effectiveness.
About You
- Proven experience as a Senior Automation Engineer, Senior SDET or equivalent.
- Strong hands-on experience with Playwright and TypeScript.
- Solid knowledge of API testing and CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience building, maintaining and improving automation frameworks.
- Confident communicator who can influence stakeholders and mentor others.
- Proactive, pragmatic and comfortable working autonomously in an evolving environment.
- Interested in emerging AI capabilities and their application to software testing.
