Maintenance Manager

Astute’s Power Team is partnering with the developers of a major Energy from Waste project to recruit a Maintenance Manager for its new-build plant in Irvine, North Ayrshire. Once complete, the plant will generate around 17MW of power from around 180,000 tonnes of waste a year. It’s due to enter commissioning shortly and be operational in late 2027.

This permanent role offers a competitive salary plus bonus and private medical insurance. You’ll lead the maintenance strategy, managing multidisciplinary technicians with a focus on plant availability, reliability and performance, and ensuring full compliance with environmental permits and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities of the Maintenance Manager

Reporting to the Plant Manager, you will:

• Manage and run the maintenance department of multi-skilled engineers and technicians
• Manage the site’s CMMS, implementing planned preventative maintenance while ensuring safe and efficient plant operation
• Plan, manage and deliver outages and shutdowns, working closely with the site engineers
• Manage and control maintenance subcontractors
• Manage the department’s budget and report on budget performance in line with accounting practices
• Develop the site’s maintenance and safety procedures, liaising with the EPC warranty team to ensure compliance
• Ensure all activities are carried out to the highest standard of health and safety
• Take an active part in plant mobilisation and commissioning, including staff recruitment and training

Required qualifications and experience

To be considered, you must have:

• 5+ years’ experience in power generation (Energy from Waste, biomass or CHP) or a similar heavy process industry such as refining, petrochemicals or paper
• Hands-on maintenance experience in power generation
• Working knowledge of PSSR, LOLER and PUWER
• Extensive plant outage experience

Desirable experience

It would be an advantage, but is not essential, to have:

• Experience of plant mobilisation, or of seeing a plant through commissioning to handover
• Knowledge of pressure parts, rotating plant, steam plant and boilers
• Mechanical engineering background, ideally a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
• IOSH, NEBOSH or similar health and safety qualification
