£40,000 – £60,000 DOE | No sponsorship available
VIQU has partnered with an established specialist vehicle engineering and manufacturing business to recruit an Automotive Systems Design Engineer. This is a hands-on role working across the full systems engineering lifecycle as increasing vehicle complexity drives greater focus on systems architecture and integration.
You’ll work from stakeholder requirements and high-level systems definition through electrical architecture, supplier integration, validation, commissioning and fault-finding.
Key Responsibilities of the Automotive Systems Design Engineer
• Develop systems engineering solutions for vehicle platforms
• Capture stakeholder functions, features, regulations and standards
• Develop and document system requirements
• Create vehicle systems architectures and topologies
• Lead integration across communication, electrical and mechanical systems
• Integrate Tier 1 supplier components into vehicle platforms
• Produce electrical interconnection schematic diagrams
• Support vehicle start-up, commissioning and fault-finding
• Contribute to DVP&R and system acceptance requirements
• Support rig and vehicle-based validation and verification
• Review test outputs against system and vehicle requirements
• Produce supporting documentation for production and aftermarket teams
Key Requirements of the Automotive Systems Design Engineer
• 3+ years' relevant industrial engineering experience
• Degree in a relevant engineering subject
• Strong working knowledge of automotive systems
• End-to-end experience across the full V-model
• Requirements capture and management experience
• Vehicle systems integration and electrical architecture experience
• Strong electrical engineering fundamentals
• Ability to produce electrical interconnection schematics
• Practical rig and vehicle testing experience
• DVP&R and validation experience
• Strong commissioning and fault-finding capability
• Able to work independently and make engineering decisions
• Strong technical communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
Experience with heavy vehicles, yellow goods, off-highway products, automotive control systems, CANbus, Functional Safety or ISO 26262 would be advantageous.
This Automotive Systems Design Engineer position would suit a generalist systems engineer who enjoys taking ownership across design, integration, validation and commissioning rather than specialising in a single stage of development.
