About the role
Location: Wetherby, West Yorkshire
Salary: £14.60 per hour
Hours: Monday to Thursday, 7am to 4.45pm
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
The OpportunityCastle Employment Group is recruiting a Yard Operative to join an established steel manufacturing business near Wetherby.
This position would suit someone with experience working in a busy industrial yard, steel stockholding business or manufacturing environment who is confident handling heavy materials and operating forklift trucks.
You'll play an important role in ensuring steel materials are safely received, organised and moved through the manufacturing process.

- Loading and unloading structural steel materials from trailers
- Operating sideloader and counterbalance forklift trucks
- Moving and organising steel beams and materials within the yard
- Sorting materials ready for production
- Supporting the movement of steel into the cutting department
- Using overhead cranes where required
- Picking and preparing materials for manufacturing
- Completing quality checks and relevant paperwork
- Carrying out pre-use checks on equipment
- Maintaining a safe, tidy and organised yard
- Previous experience in a yard, steel stockholding or manufacturing environment
- Experience operating sideloader and counterbalance forklift trucks
- Confident handling large or heavy materials
- Previous overhead crane experience would be advantageous
- Good understanding of safe lifting and material handling
- Comfortable working outdoors and in a busy industrial environment
- Able to work independently and follow health and safety procedures
- Previous shunter experience would be beneficial
