About the role
Lydney, Gloucestershire £70,000–£85,000 (DOE) + strong benefits
JustEng is partnering with a global leader in modular steel bridging solutions — a business that has served the transportation and construction industries for over 70 years, delivering permanent, temporary, military and emergency bridging in more than 150 countries — to appoint an Engineering Manager at its Lydney, Gloucestershire base.
This is a senior leadership role: you will lead, manage and develop a team of engineers delivering high-quality technical design and support for modular steel bridging, ensuring every output meets defined quality standards, customer requirements and applicable UK and international codes. You will also oversee the Site Services team, ensuring compliance with budget, quality, and legal, regulatory and company standards.
Key responsibilities
- Lead and develop the engineering team — selection, performance management, career development and workload management
- Review and approve engineering deliverables (drawings, calculations and bills of materials) for compliance with applicable standards and design codes
- Provide technical guidance on structural design — load calculations, finite element analysis, material selection and design integrity
- Establish and maintain engineering procedures, templates and documentation standards
- Support client engagement, advising on suitable engineering solutions for bridge applications
- Conduct and support site visits, inspections and technical assessments for tenders and certification, including Certificates of Compliance
- Oversee the Site Services team — budget, quality and compliance
- Maintain current knowledge of UK and international standards (including Eurocodes) and drive continuous improvement
What we are looking for
- Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (or equivalent)
- Typically 8–10 years in steel structure design and fabrication
- Proven experience managing engineering team(s) in a UK environment — ideally infrastructure, bridges or modular construction
- Strong structural engineering knowledge — load calculations, finite element analysis and material performance
- Working knowledge of Eurocodes and BS standards (AASHTO and CSA S6 advantageous)
- Able to interpret and produce technical documentation — specifications, structural calculations and engineering drawings
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and engineering design tools
- Strong communication skills with internal and external stakeholders
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status preferred
