About the role
Our defence client is seeking a Principal Quality Inspector - Inspection (Dimensional Control) in their Barrow Location
12 Month Contract
4 Days per week onsite (Potentially Flexible)
£35ph PAYE plus £5.09 holiday per hour/£47.12 Umbrella

The role of the Quality Inspector is to undertake inspections of the product during Build in accordance with the relevant inspection and test plans
· Competent Quality professional capable of managing own tasks, delivering results and providing coaching and mentoring to junior members of the Quality department within own capability and skill base areas
· A member of the Quality team who deals with emergent issues and anticipates and escalates problems where required
· Conduct specialist Quality activities in accordance with relevant processes and procedures
· Has the technical knowledge to be a Process Owner / mandatory stakeholder in their specialist Quality discipline
· Domain areas include, but are not limited to: Dimensional Control, Electrical, Paint, Pipe/Mechanical, Radiography, Structural / Steelwork, Non-Destructive Examination (Weld Inspection), Receipt Inspection, Sheet Metalwork, Acoustic Tiling
Core Duties
Work as a fully contributory member of the Quality team
Responsible for demonstrating SHE and responsible business behaviours
Undertake complex and specialist Quality inspection activities within their specialist Quality discipline
Responsible for conducting conditions management and customer walk-round audits
Manage own development
Support succession planning activities to enhance functional development (within their specialist Quality
discipline)
Lead development of current and future technology and tooling strategies
Able to access, have a clear understanding of and apply the local Management System documentation e.g. policies, procedures, workmanship standards, risk assessments and COSHH assessments and processes and apply in their related area
Fully participate in the development, maintenance and modification of processes and procedures in assigned areas
Deployment of technical processes, within their specialist Quality discipline, to the Quality Inspectors and Quality Team Leaders
Liaise / interface with appropriate areas of the business to build and maintain effective relationships
Utilise calibrated measuring equipment to assess and measure tolerances of the product and record any non-conformance
Responsible for leading the verification of all non-conformances
Responsible for conducting Quality investigations
Report results of inspections using agreed processes and identify trends to support improvement activities
Use of Company computer systems and software as appropriate
The ability to lead, articulate and deliver Quality objectives
The ability to influence the Quality agenda at cross functional working groups
Represent the department at Quality reviews and liaise with the customer when required
The ability to critique and tailor issues and ideas in written reports and presentations ensuring accuracy and clarity of meaning
Liaise with other functions and Business Units in relation to their specialist Quality discipline
Support Programme Learning from Experience (LfE) teams and actively contribute at LfE reviews
The ability to deliver results and improve
Knowledge, Skills and Qualifications
Experience of ISO 9001/ EN9100 standards
Subject Matter Expert (SME) own discipline within Quality and a broad understanding of other Quality related disciplines
Understand how their own role and team fit into overall objectives of the function
Knowledge of and support the development of product safety
Export requirements knowledge (for example International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR)) (where applicable)
Knowledge of the Programme Inspection and Test Plan and how it is implemented, suggesting
improvements if required
Understand the importance of cross functional integration across the Business Unit to achieve overall goals of the Function
Understanding of Business Management Systems, Operational Framework and Operational Assurance process
Be experienced in coordinating/ facilitating and influencing large teams for Continuous Improvement
Skills
The ability to use and train others in the use of technology and tools applicable to the discipline, including investigations
The ability to interpret specifications, procedures and contract requirements and cascade to others
A working knowledge of facilitating Root Cause Analysis (RCA) methodologies Fishbone, 5 Why, relationship
diagrams, six sigma etc. gathering and analysing evidence cross functionally
Effective action management and verification
Effective stakeholder management
Qualifications
HNC qualified in an appropriate technical discipline or equivalent experience: Tradal background - time served in trade discipline
