Electrical Engineer – Rail Systems

Are you an Electrical Engineer looking for an opportunity to work on complex rail systems and rolling stock, combining hands-on engineering, technical problem-solving and customer support?

We are looking for an experienced Electrical Engineer to join our client’s engineering team, providing technical expertise across a range of rail products and systems, doors, power collection, spares and components.

This is a varied role where you will work closely with production, quality, procurement, engineering, suppliers and customers, helping to resolve technical issues and ensure products meet the required standards for safety, reliability and performance.

As an Electrical Engineer, you will:

• Provide electrical engineering expertise and technical support across a range of rail products and systems.
• Provide on-site engineering support for day-to-day technical issues arising from production, projects, quality and procurement.
• Investigate and resolve production and technical queries, supporting inspections, condition assessments and joint investigations.
• Support the specification, design, testing, maintenance and failure investigation of electrical systems and components.
• Produce and update electrical schematics, technical drawings and engineering documentation.
• Raise and manage Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) and support the implementation of product and specification changes.
• Produce technical reports, change documentation, test plans, supplier specifications and overhaul specifications.
• Investigate failures of electrical systems and components, identifying root cause and corrective actions.
• Provide risk evaluation, assessment and mitigation evidence relating to product safety hazards.
• Act as a UK technical interface with international engineering teams, suppliers and third-party organisations.
• Work closely with production teams to provide practical engineering solutions to shop-floor issues.
• Ensure engineering activities are delivered accurately and within agreed timescales.
• Occasionally visit customer and supplier sites to support projects, investigations and product performance activities.
• Contribute to continuous improvement, quality initiatives and site safety programmes.

We’re looking for an engineer who combines strong technical knowledge with a practical, hands-on approach.

Essential

• Degree or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering.
• Minimum 3 years’ experience in an electrical engineering environment.
• Experience with the specification, design, testing, maintenance and failure investigation of electrical systems and components.
• Good knowledge of rail vehicles / rolling stock systems.
• Experience providing technical engineering support within a production or manufacturing environment.
• Experience using Electrical CAD systems.
• Strong problem-solving and root-cause analysis skills.
• Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office and standard engineering tools.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical issues clearly and concisely.
