About the role

This is a varied, hands-on position working with a portfolio of mainly owner-managed businesses and sme clients.

You will be involved in preparing routine accounts, working with client records and bookkeeping information, and communicating directly with clients to obtain information, answer queries and help move their accounts through to completion.

You will work closely with the principal and wider team, with support available when needed, while having the opportunity to take ownership of your own workload.

The role would suit someone who is looking to continue developing their career within practice, as well as a more experienced accountant who is looking for a stable, local role where their experience will be valued.

Key responsibilities

• Preparing routine year-end statutory accounts for owner-managed and sme clients
• Preparing accounts from client records and bookkeeping information
• Posting journals and making necessary adjustments
• Working with bookkeeping systems including sage, xero and quickbooks
• Preparing and maintaining electronic working papers
• Liaising directly with clients to obtain information and resolve accounts queries
• Discussing accounts with clients and assisting with sign-off
• Supporting with corporation tax work and computations where required
• Assisting with general accounts and compliance work across the client portfolio
• Working alongside the principal and wider team to ensure client deadlines are met

What you’ll need

• ACA/ACCA part-qualified with solid practical experience
• Recently ACA/ACCA qualified with 2–3 years’ relevant practice experience
• An experienced practice accountant who is looking for a permanent position within a smaller, friendly firm
• Someone with broader experience who is looking for a more local role and values a flexible working environment

What’s on offer

• Circa £45,000 depending on experience
