About the role

Youth Assembly Co-Ordinator- Northern Ireland Assembly
Location: Stormont Buildings, East Belfast
Pay Rate: £22.89 per hour (weekly pay)

The Youth Assembly Co-Ordinator will report to the AG5 Education Officer (Youth Assembly Manager) and will manage an AG7 Youth Assembly Support Officer. The role is a full-time role, 37 hours per week, usually undertaken Monday to Friday, however regular out-of-hours work, including evenings and weekends, will be required. Overtime, where authorised, will be paid in accordance with the Assembly Commission's Overtime Pay Policy. This is a key role supporting more senior staff in the effective management of the Youth Assembly.
Core Responsibilities
As a Youth Assembly Co-Ordinator, and member of the Public Engagement team, you will primarily work in the Youth Assembly team. Your duties will include:

Provision of youth-led participative projects:

  • Working directly with a diverse group of young people aged 12-16 to facilitate the day-to-day work of the Youth Assembly, including supporting young people in their skills development, helping convene spaces for Youth Assembly Members (YAMs) to make decisions, creating an inclusive and positive approach for YAMs to contribute; and keeping YAMs informed and in touch with the goals and purpose at hand.
  • Developing and delivering online and offline events and activities to support the Youth Assembly including plenary sessions (debates in the Assembly Chamber) and committee meetings (smaller decision-making groups).
  • Delivering a number of Youth Assembly projects at the same time, often to tight deadlines.
  • Designing and delivering a training programme for members of the Youth Assembly.


Maintaining effective working relationships:

  • Supporting more senior staff in the effective management of the Youth

Assembly.

  • Developing and maintaining effective working relationships with a wide

range of internal and external stakeholders at various levels to ensure that
Youth Assembly Members have opportunities to be heard on legislation and policy.

Communication:

  • Reviewing records, data and metrics and drafting reports to support decision-making by senior staff.
  • Developing communications plans and materials, producing/approving content for publication on social media platforms and the Youth Assembly website, and ensuring that this information is up to date.
  • Attending, participating in and managing meetings, visits, and other events in support of the work of the Youth Assembly; ensuring these are carried out effectively and that accurate records of business are maintained.
  • Producing high-quality written material such as articles, reports, online communications, and presentations which are suited to the target audience and purpose.
  • Undertaking research and investigatory work, providing timely and accurate analysis and recommendations to assist in the drafting of reports and briefing documents to inform decision-making.


Assisting in the development and implementation of policies and procedures relating to the Youth Assembly:

  • Assisting the AG5 Education Officer (Youth Assembly Manager) in the development, management and monitoring of policies, processes, and procedures in relation to the Youth Assembly such as Safeguarding procedures etc.


Leading and managing staff:

  • Managing and developing individual staff members to ensure the delivery of team objectives and services.



Additional duties:

  • Complying with all of the Assembly Commission's staff policies and procedures including Equal Opportunities and Dignity at Work policies and procedures and all mandatory training requirements.
  • Managing information and records in accordance with established policies and statutory requirements.
  • Monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of activity and implementing changes and improvements as required.
  • Working on your own initiative, to deliver an agreed set of outcomes.
  • Carrying out other duties that the Assembly Commission reasonably requires of you.



Essential Criteria:
Applicants must, by the closing date for applications have:
Option 1

  • A degree (minimum 2:2 classification) or equivalent/higher qualification
  • AND at least 3 years' experience in each of the areas below

OR
Option 2

  • At least 5 years' experience in each of the areas below:

Leading and delivering youth-led participation projects.
Building and maintaining effective stakeholder relationships.
Producing high-quality written and verbal communications for diverse audiences.
Managing and developing staff to deliver high-quality services and outcomes.
