Site Supervisor

Job Purpose

To support the Construction Manager and/or Projects Delivery Manager in the day-to-day management and delivery of highway investigations, improvement works, and road renewal schemes.

Key Accountabilities

  • Review and approve Method Statements, Risk Assessments, and Construction Phase Plans.
  • Monitor works programmes and liaise with contractors, clients, and local authorities to ensure programme milestones and completion dates are achieved.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with designers, contractors, stakeholders, and clients.
  • Maintain accurate and contemporaneous daily site records, including photographs, plant utilisation, and labour resources.
  • Manage permit-to-work, permit-to-dig, and other approval processes in accordance with company Health, Safety and Environmental Management Systems.
  • Ensure all permit conditions are maintained and adhered to throughout project delivery.
  • Assist in resolving site and construction issues, communicating any changes to the Scheme Engineer, Designer, and Quantity Surveyor as required.
  • Ensure schemes are delivered in accordance with approved designs, specifications, and quality standards.
  • Monitor workforce compliance with health, safety, environmental requirements, and site rules.
  • Carry out daily inspections of traffic management (TM) arrangements and address any issues identified.
  • Produce and maintain site documentation, ensuring site inductions, POWRAs, and daily briefings are completed and recorded.
  • Complete weekly site safety inspections and participate in regular safety meetings.
  • Provide detailed site information to the Quantity Surveyor to support the preparation of Early Warning Notices (EWNs) and Compensation Events (CEs).
  • Prepare and provide as-built records and post-construction information to support completion of the Health & Safety File.

Skills, Knowledge & Experience

Essential

  • Proven experience in highways construction.
  • Knowledge of NEC3 contracts, including the administration of Compensation Events and Contractual Variation Instructions (CVIs).
  • Working knowledge of the Specification for Highway Works.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple contractors and concurrent work activities.
  • Strong organisational, planning, and communication skills.
  • Full UK manual driving licence.
  • Good understanding of Chapter 8 requirements and traffic management practices.

Desirable

  • Temporary Works Coordinator (TWC) or Temporary Works Supervisor (TWS) qualification.
  • Experience working on local authority or highway framework contracts.
  • Strong understanding of construction health, safety, and environmental management systems.
