About the role

A manufacturing industry-leading company is looking for a skilled CNC Machine Operator to join its team, operating a state-of-the-art Matsuura MAM72 5-Axis Horizontal Machining Centre to produce complex, high-precision aerospace components.

The role:

As an Aerospace CNC Machine Operator, you’ll play a critical role in delivering precision-machined components that meet the highest aerospace quality standards.

Your responsibilities will include

• Setting up and operating the Matsuura MAM72 5-axis machining center
• Loading programs, fixtures, tooling and components in line with engineering instructions
• Manufacturing complex components from aluminium, titanium, stainless steel and aerospace-grade alloys
• Carrying out first-off, in-process and final inspections
• Interpreting engineering drawings, specifications and GD&T requirements
• Monitoring tool wear and making offsets and tool changes as required
• Using precision measuring equipment including micrometers, verniers, bore gauges and height gauges
• Maintaining accurate production and traceability records
• Supporting continuous improvement initiatives across the manufacturing area
• Ensuring compliance with quality, safety and environmental standards

What We’re Looking For

We’re interested in candidates who have experience operating advanced CNC machining centers and a passion for delivering exceptional quality.

Essential Experience

• Proven experience operating Matsuura MAM72 or similar 5-axis CNC machining centers
• Aerospace manufacturing experience
• Strong understanding of CNC machining principles
• Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings
• Experience machining to tight tolerances and demanding surface finish requirements
• Knowledge of aerospace materials including:
• Aluminium alloys
• Titanium
• Stainless steels
• Experience using precision inspection equipment
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
• Excellent attention to detail and quality focus

Desirable Qualifications & Experience

• Time-served engineering apprenticeship
• NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, or equivalent engineering qualification
• Experience working within an AS9100 environment
• Familiarity with Fanuc-based controls
• Experience of multi-pallet or lights-out manufacturing
• Crane and lifting equipment certification

The rates advertised are the day shift rate (lower) and the double day shift rate (higher).

Skills Required

Apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Engineering / CNC Machining preferred
Relevant manufacturing or machining certifications advantageous
Proven experience operating Mazak CNC machines
Strong background in 3‑axis and 4‑axis machining
Experience with complex mill‑turn operations
Confident machining titanium, steel, and aluminium
Strong understanding of cutting tools, feeds, speeds, and tool life management
Excellent ability to read and interpret technical drawings and GD&T
Competent with precision measuring equipment (micrometers, verniers, CMM awareness)
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality

Qualifications Required

Apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Engineering / CNC Machining preferred
Relevant manufacturing or machining certifications advantageous
Proven experience operating Matsuura CNC machines
Strong background in 5‑axis machining

Rate of Pay

£42,161.00 – £49,160.00 per hour
