Financial Controller

Our client, an established and growing manufacturing business, is looking for a technically strong Financial Controller to take ownership of the finance function, ensure the integrity of the financial records, deliver robust cost and management information to support operational decision-making, grow their career, and thrive in a collaborative environment that values unique contributions and rewards exceptional performance.

Key responsibilities of the Financial Controller:

• Own month-end, quarter-end and year-end close, balance sheet reconciliations and financial controls.
• Lead monthly management accounts with clear commentary for the senior team and Board.
• Own manufacturing cost accounting end to end, including standard costing, BOMs, routings, overhead absorption and variance analysis.
• Manage inventory valuation and control across raw materials, building materials, WIP and finished goods, including stock counts and slow-moving/obsolete provisions.
• Analyse material costs, supplier price movements, yield, scrap and waste, and turn findings into action.
• Partner with Operations, Procurement and Supply Chain to improve margins and product profitability.
• Explain cost and margin drivers to non-finance colleagues in practical terms.
• Manage statutory accounts, audit, corporation tax and VAT.
• Lead budgeting, forecasting, cash flow and working capital.
• Evaluate capex proposals and oversee fixed asset accounting.
• Lead, coach and develop the finance team.
• Drive improvements in finance processes, ERP reporting and automation.
• Strengthen internal controls and process documentation.
• Manage relationships with banks, lenders, insurers and auditors.
• Act as a trusted on-site business partner to the Managing Director and operational leaders.

Key essentials of the Financial Controller:

• ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified.
• Proven experience in a Financial Controller or senior finance role within a manufacturing or production environment.
• Strong technical knowledge of manufacturing finance, including costing, inventory and WIP accounting.
