About the role
Accounts Assistant – Part Time (30 Hours)
Growing Family-Run Business | Flexible Working | Supportive Finance Director
Near Basingstoke / Overton | Hybrid Working
£30,000–£35,000 FTE + Bonus & Benefits
A brilliant opportunity for an experienced Accounts Assistant looking for a part-time role with genuine flexibility, a supportive Finance Director and a business that has invested in making its finance processes as efficient as possible.
You'll be joining an established, family-run business with a strong reputation in its market and ambitious plans for continued growth. It's a friendly, down-to-earth environment where people work closely together, and there's a real focus on improving systems, processes and the way the business operates.
The role is 30 hours per week, with flexibility to work either four days of 7.5 hours or five days of 6 hours. You'll spend three days a week in the office, with the remaining time working from home.
You'll be working closely with the Finance Director, taking ownership of the day-to-day accounting across two entities. It's a small finance function, so they're looking for someone experienced, organised and comfortable managing their own workload without needing constant supervision.
One of the big positives is that the business has already invested heavily in its finance systems and processes. They use Xero alongside integrated systems, meaning much of the repetitive work is automated rather than relying on manual data entry.
They're looking for someone who enjoys transactional finance, takes pride in keeping things running smoothly and wants a role they can settle into for the longer term.
The Role:
- Take ownership of the sales and purchase ledgers, including invoice processing, queries and reconciliations
- Manage credit control, chase overdue payments and maintain accurate customer accounts
- Prepare supplier payment runs and ensure invoices are correctly matched and approved
- Complete regular bank reconciliations across the business
- Maintain accounting records across two entities
- Support month-end processes, including ensuring invoices are posted correctly and assisting with reconciliations
- Assist with VAT returns, expenses and general finance queries
- Work across Xero, Cin7 Core and ApprovalMax to keep transactions flowing accurately between systems
- Help resolve discrepancies and improve existing processes where needed
- Work closely with the Finance Director and wider business to keep the finance function running smoothly
The Candidate:
- At least two years' experience in an Accounts Assistant or similar transactional finance role
- Good experience across both accounts payable and accounts receivable
- Xero experience would be desirable, but isn't essential
- Comfortable managing credit control and speaking with customers about outstanding payments
- Experience working in a smaller business or finance team would be beneficial
- Organised, accurate and confident managing your own workload
- Proactive and happy to take ownership without needing to be constantly managed
- Comfortable using different accounting systems and learning new processes
- Experience with stock, inventory or product-based businesses would be useful, but isn't essential
- Able to travel to the rural office location, so your own transport is essential
Salary & Benefits:
- £30,000–£35,000 FTE
- 30 hours per week – four 7.5-hour days or five 6-hour days
- Hybrid working – three days in the office
- Discretionary annual bonus
- 5% employer pension contribution
- 25 days' holiday plus bank holidays, pro rata
- Healthcare scheme and employee assistance programme
- Free on-site parking
- Opportunity to work closely with an experienced Finance Director
- Potential to take on broader accounting responsibilities as the business grows
This would be a great move for someone who enjoys hands-on accounting but wants a better balance around their working week.
You'll have the flexibility of a part-time role, well-established systems, a Finance Director who trusts people to get on with their work and the opportunity to become an important part of a growing family-run business.
