About the role
About us: We deliver information, advice and wellbeing support for unpaid carers across two north-west London boroughs. Our Hillingdon team also runs a young carers service, supporting children and young people aged 5 to 25 who live in Hillingdon and have a caring responsibility.
We are seeking a confident and experienced IT Trustee who can lead the board's thinking on digital and technology.
Your role as IT Trustee:
- Bring independent expertise, challenge and insight to board discussions on digital strategy and the use of artificial intelligence.
- Help us identify and manage technology related risk, including cyber security, data protection and the safe handling of sensitive personal information about carers and young carers.
- Advise on the standards, governance frameworks and good practice we should be working to, proportionate to our size and resources.
- Offer a view on emerging technology that could improve how we reach carers, deliver services and run the organisation more efficiently.
- Champion accessibility and digital inclusion, so that our services remain open to carers who are not confident online.
- Work alongside fellow trustees and staff to build digital capability and resilience across the charity.
Alongside this, you would share the same collective responsibilities as every trustee for the charity's finances, strategy and legal duties. It is a real opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of unpaid carers in Hillingdon and Ealing!
You will be able to demonstrate:
- Strong experience in digital, technology, data or innovation.
- A working understanding of data governance, cyber security, and the practical uses and limits of artificial intelligence.
- The ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly to a non-technical audience.
- Strategic vision and the ability to think creatively.
- A collaborative and constructive approach to advising and influencing.
- The time to prepare for and attend meetings (meetings take place six times a year).
- A genuine commitment to unpaid carers and to the values of Carers Trust Hillingdon & Ealing.
- Experience of digital change within health, social care, education or the voluntary sector would be an advantage.
Hours:
Board meetings take place six times a year on a Friday, typically 10am - 12pm. The option to join online is available.
