About the role
Project Delivery Manager | eDV, Project Delivery, Government Programmes | Cheltenham
£60,000 to £100,000. Permanent.
Cheltenham. Fully on-site.
You’ll keep secure government work moving: the plan, the people, the risks, and the honest update nobody else wants to give. There’s more than one of these jobs going.
Our client is a technical, data and management consultancy based in Cheltenham. They work for UK Government departments and for businesses in sensitive, heavily regulated industries, mostly on data management, digital transformation and cloud. Their consultants scope and deliver programmes that run for years. They’re growing, with new work coming in across several frameworks, which is why they’re hiring more than one Project or Delivery Manager now.
All of this work happens in secure environments, so active eDV clearance is non-negotiable. You’ll also need to be a UK national. Which programme you join depends on the work coming in, and we’ll tell you what’s live when we talk.
The client puts integrity and the wellbeing of their staff and customers first, and says so before anything else. In practice that means you’re trusted with delivery from your first day, not after months of shadowing someone. It also means owning it when things slip. The honest constraint is clearance: if you don’t hold active eDV today, we can’t consider you, however strong the rest of your CV.
The job
Delivery. Running projects for government and regulated clients and getting them over the line. Planning the work, tracking it, and making the calls that keep it on course when the plan meets reality.
People. Keeping technical specialists, analysts, engineers and the client’s own teams pointing the same way. You’re the person everyone checks with to find out where things stand.
Honesty. Risks, issues and dependencies raised early, and updates that tell the client what’s really happening. On secure, long-running programmes, a red status reported on time beats a green one that isn’t true.
What you’ll bring
Essential:
- Active eDV security clearance.
- UK nationality.
- Time as the lead Project Manager or Delivery Manager, not only supporting one.
- Plans, risks and dependencies you’ve owned yourself.
- Reporting to senior stakeholders, including when the news is bad.
- Existing right to work in the UK.
Useful: government, defence or security programmes, data, digital or cloud delivery, consultancy experience, Agile and Waterfall delivery.
Who this suits
You’ve probably been a Project Manager, Delivery Manager or Senior Project Manager, in a consultancy, a government department or a defence supplier. You care whether the thing works once it’s delivered, not just whether it went out on time. You’d rather give a client bad news early than good news that turns out to be wrong.
If you’d rather coordinate and report while someone else makes the calls, this won’t suit you. Here, the calls are yours.
