About the role
Your new company
You will be working for a large organisation on a remote basis with the occasional travel into the office, 1-2 days a month in London. The rate is £470 per day inside IR35.
Your new role Role OverviewWe are looking for an experienced Application Developer specialising in Java and Web Technologies to support a major Legacy Technology Debt programme. The programme is focused on refactoring and modernising applications that form part of the UK's critical national infrastructure and support the payment of more than £150bn in benefits annually.
Working within a large programme team and directly alongside internal teams, you will help modernise applications currently operating across COBOL, C++ and Java environments. These applications are being refactored from existing on-premise data centres into Java-based applications hosted on AWS, using a microservice's architecture.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead development activities for the refactoring of key company applications.
- Design and develop key application components.
- Support the build, update and migration of applications to AWS.
- Work closely with client teams and the wider programme team throughout the development lifecycle.
- Provide development assurance across key application components.
- Contribute to the modernisation of legacy applications into Java-based cloud solutions.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Strong Java application development experience.
- Proven experience developing Java applications that are being migrated to AWS.
- Experience supporting the build, development or migration of applications.
- Ability to work effectively within large programme and client-facing teams.
- Experience with application design and development.
Technical EnvironmentThe wider programme involves:
- Java
- AWS
- Microservices architecture
- Legacy technologies including COBOL and C++
- Migration from on-premise data centres to AWS
