Import / export operations clerk

We are seeking an experienced Freight Forwarder to join a busy operations team, managing import and export shipments across sea, road and air freight. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating shipments from start to finish, maintaining strong customer and supplier relationships and ensuring all operations run efficiently and compliantly.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage import and export shipments from start to finish across multiple freight modes.
• Coordinate bookings with shipping lines, overseas agents, hauliers and suppliers.
• Obtain freight rates, prepare quotations and arrange shipments.
• Process shipping documentation and customs declarations, ensuring UK customs compliance.
• Monitor shipments, provide customer updates and resolve operational issues.
• Manage shipment files, costing and invoicing accurately.

Essential Requirements:

• Ability to independently manage shipments from start to finish.
• Strong sea freight knowledge and understanding of import/export procedures.
• Good working knowledge of CDS and UK customs requirements.
• Excellent communication, organisation and problem-solving skills.

Desirable:

• Multimodal freight experience.
• Knowledge of CargoWise and Descartes/e-Customs.
• Experience obtaining freight quotations and dealing with overseas agents and shipping lines.

Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 09:00 – 17:30.
