Salary: £35,000p/a

Are you highly organised, naturally curious and someone who notices the details others miss?
We’re recruiting for an exciting Stock Controller opportunity with a growing third-party logistics business, offering a role that is far more varied than simply counting stock.
Working across multiple sites, you’ll have the opportunity to really get under the skin of warehouse operations, investigate discrepancies, analyse data, identify improvements and work with operational teams to make processes better.
Previous Stock Controller experience is advantageous, but it isn’t everything. Full training can be provided for the right person. What matters most is that you have excellent attention to detail, high levels of accuracy, a strong work ethic and the drive to make a genuine impact.
A genuinely flexible opportunity
The business understands that the traditional Monday to Friday, 8am-5pm working pattern doesn’t suit everyone.
While these are the standard hours, there is flexibility for the right person, including potential consideration of a four-day working week or slightly different start and finish times.
The role involves travel between sites in Leighton Buzzard, Houghton Regis and Dunstable, with occasional travel to Burton-on-Trent. Your own vehicle is therefore required, with business mileage reimbursed. Some weekend availability will occasionally be required to support stock takes.
What will you be doing?
This is a varied position where you’ll combine stock control, data, problem solving and hands-on warehouse involvement.
You’ll be responsible for:
- Maintaining and improving stock accuracy across multiple warehouse sites
- Investigating stock discrepancies and getting to the root cause, rather than simply correcting the figures
- Reviewing inventory data, performance and trends to identify potential improvements and cost savings
- Turning data into clear, useful information that can support business decisions
- Working closely with Site Managers, warehouse teams, customers and the Data Analysis Manager
- Spending time on the warehouse floor to understand processes and identify better ways of working
- Supporting warehouse layout and process improvement projects
- Leading stock takes and maintaining accurate cycle-count programmes
- Maintaining accurate master data
- Identifying patterns in stock adjustments and helping implement corrective actions
- Supporting improvements to WMS processes
- Getting involved in wider operational projects as the business continues to grow
Who are we looking for?
We’re much more interested in finding someone with the right mindset and potential than someone who can tick every box.
You could already be working in stock control, inventory, warehousing, logistics, data or administration, or you may simply have the transferable skills and attitude needed to succeed.
You’ll ideally be:
✔ Exceptionally accurate with strong attention to detail
✔ Naturally analytical and good at problem solving
✔ Confident questioning why something has happened and investigating until you find the answer
✔ Comfortable working with data and systems
✔ Organised and capable of managing your workload across different sites
✔ A strong communicator who can work with everyone from warehouse colleagues to senior management
✔ Proactive, curious and willing to suggest improvements
✔ Happy working independently as well as part of a wider team
✔ Someone who takes ownership and genuinely wants to make a difference
Strong computer skills are important, particularly Excel. Knowledge of Power BI would be beneficial, although the client lists this as preferable rather than essential.
Why apply?
This could be a brilliant opportunity for someone who wants more than a repetitive stock-control position.
You’ll be joining a growing logistics business where you’ll have exposure to multiple sites, warehouse operations, data analysis, process improvement and operational projects, giving you plenty of opportunity to broaden your experience.
Most importantly, you don’t necessarily need years of stock-control experience to be considered.
If you’re accurate, switched on, hardworking and have the drive to learn, the business is prepared to provide training and give you the opportunity to develop into the position.
If you’re looking for a flexible, varied role where your ideas and attention to detail can make a visible difference, we’d love to hear from you. Apply today for more information.
