Highways Design Engineer Location: Doncaster Contract: Temporary Hours: 37 Hours per Week Pay: £34.35 per hour PAYE (ex Holiday) | £45.00 per hour Umbrella Service Care Solutions are currently recruiting for an experienced Highways Design Engineer to join a Local Authority in Doncaster on a temporary basis. With a significant increase in capital investment over the next five years, this is an exciting opportunity to join an expanding Highways team and play a key role in delivering a programme of preventative highway maintenance projects that will improve the local road network. This role would suit an experienced highways professional with a strong civil engineering background and proven experience managing preventative maintenance schemes, contractor performance and multiple concurrent projects. The Role As a Highways Design Engineer, you will be responsible for managing a programme of highway maintenance schemes from conception through to completion. You will supervise Clerks of Works, oversee contractors on site, provide technical engineering advice and ensure projects are delivered safely, on time and within budget. You will also act as a Project/Programme Manager, making informed engineering decisions whilst ensuring all works comply with relevant specifications, standards and quality requirements. Key Responsibilities Investigate existing highway network issues and determine appropriate maintenance solutions. Produce highway maintenance designs and associated technical documentation. Prepare bills of quantities, specifications and tender documentation. Support schemes through procurement and construction stages. Undertake site supervision and site setting-out activities. Respond to technical queries arising during construction. Manage projects through the full lifecycle from concept to completion. Essential Requirements Proven experience as a Highways Maintenance Design Engineer. Experience delivering schemes on existing highway networks rather than solely development or greenfield projects. Ability to manage projects through the complete design and delivery process. Competence in undertaking levelling and site measurement activities. Experience preparing bills of quantities and tender documentation. Strong site supervision and construction support experience. Ability to work independently and manage multiple schemes. Desirable Skills & Experience Level 3 Qualification in Civil Engineering or substantial experience within highway maintenance. Previous Local Authority experience. Familiarity with GIS systems.
