Senior Design Manager - WastewaterLocation: Guildford, SurreyContract: Day-rate contractStart: January 2027Working pattern: 3 days per week in the officeRate: Competitive day rate
We are recruiting for an experienced Senior Design Manager to join a Tier 1 contractor delivering a major programme of wastewater infrastructure projects.This is a key design leadership position, responsible for managing multidisciplinary engineering teams and ensuring technically robust, buildable and commercially effective solutions are delivered from initial optioneering through detailed design and construction support.
The roleYou will be responsible for:

• Leading multidisciplinary Civil, Mechanical and Electrical design teams
• Managing design from initial need and optioneering through solution development, detailed design and construction
• Ensuring designs are delivered to agreed programme, budget and quality requirements
• Working closely with project managers, construction teams, the client and supply chain
• Driving buildability, value engineering and cost efficiency throughout the design process
• Managing design budgets, forecasts, change control and programme timescales
• Producing and managing Design Management Plans / Project Execution Plans
• Ensuring designs meet relevant CDM requirements
• Managing technical and project risk throughout design development
• Providing clear reporting on design progress, cost and programme

About youWe are looking for an experienced Design Manager / Senior Design Manager with:

• A Civil, Mechanical or Electrical engineering background
• Strong multidisciplinary design management experience
• Experience delivering complex infrastructure projects
• Knowledge of design quality control and governance
• Strong commercial awareness around design budgets, programme and change
• Good understanding of CDM responsibilities
• The ability to work effectively with clients, delivery teams and supply chain partners
• Previous water or wastewater experience would be highly advantageous
• Chartered status would be beneficial but is not essential
