About the role
Are you looking for an exciting new opportunity?
Join a UK developer and operator of resilient, lower-carbon AI infrastructure dedicated to driving digital transformation by converting legacy brownfield sites into state-of-the-art data centers. Powered by renewable energy, the organization creates ultra-fast compute capacity that supports community regeneration while providing high-performance infrastructure to healthcare, research, finance, enterprise, and public-sector clients.
The company is currently on the lookout for an Observability Engineer to join its team. The successful candidate will take greenfield ownership of designing, building, and running the enterprise observability platform across compute, GPU, storage, and networking layers. Core duties include defining telemetry and monitoring standards, implementing alerting and dashboarding using Grafana and OpenTelemetry within Kubernetes environments, and establishing data retention and governance frameworks to support mission-critical operations.
If you would like to learn more about this opportunity, feel free to reach out and apply today!
Responsibilities:
- Design and implement highly available observability services across multiple co-location and production sites, including multi-tenant controls and tenant isolation
- Define platform standards for telemetry collection, labelling, metadata enrichment, retention and data governance
- Deploy and manage Grafana Alloy collectors across Kubernetes clusters, Linux hosts, network infrastructure, storage platforms and hardware management systems
- Integrate telemetry from Kubernetes, GPU infrastructure, HPE hardware, storage, network devices and cloud-native services using OpenTelemetry standards
- Build alerting frameworks (recording rules, AlertManager), operational dashboards, and SLIs, SLOs and KPIs, integrated with ITSM and incident-management platforms
- Automate platform delivery with Infrastructure-as-Code and GitOps (dashboards, alerts, tenant onboarding, telemetry config), and design and validate DR, resilience and failover for the observability services themselves
Skills/Must have:
- Significant experience implementing and operating enterprise observability or monitoring platforms at scale
- The Grafana ecosystem (Grafana, Prometheus, Mimir, Loki, Tempo, Alloy), Kubernetes-native design, Linux systems administration and cloud-native infrastructure
- A deep understanding of metrics, logs, traces and OpenTelemetry; Infrastructure-as-Code and GitOps (ideally Ansible); object storage and distributed data platforms; automation in Python and/or Go; and strong architecture, deployment design and operational documentation skills
- The ability to set standards and bring application and operations teams with you, ownership in an autonomous start-up setting, and clear written communication
Desirable Skills:
- Experience monitoring GPU, HPC, high-speed networking (InfiniBand) or HPE hardware estates
- Multi-tenant platform experience and distributed tracing adoption
- Integration with ITSM tooling such as ServiceNow
- Grafana Enterprise experience
- Security, compliance and operational governance exposure
Benefits:
- 15% Bonus
- 4% rising to 7% Pension
Salary:
- Up To £130,000
