Senior Engineer

Ecotricity, the UK’s first true green energy provider, has a strong internal technology team building solutions across mission-critical platforms. The Senior Engineer will create solutions that use artificial intelligence to solve real business problems, with AWS/Databricks as the core production platform and Claude and Codex supporting the engineering workflow. This is a hands-on role spanning discovery, software delivery and the reliable operation of live services

Responsibilities

• Own the design, build, deployment and ongoing operation of production-grade AI-enabled data products on AWS and Databricks.
• Work with stakeholders to define the user problem, measurable outcomes, data requirements and a pragmatic technical approach.
• Prototype rapidly with Claude, Codex and other approved AI tooling, then turn successful concepts into secure, maintainable software.
• Build reliable data pipelines, APIs and back-end services, together with front-end web or app experiences where the product requires them.
• Apply strong software engineering practices including code review, automated testing, CI/CD, version control, documentation and infrastructure as code.
• Create evaluation, monitoring and observability for data quality, model or LLM behaviour, service reliability, performance and cost.
• Protect sensitive data and apply appropriate security, privacy, governance and responsible AI controls throughout the product lifecycle.
• Operate and support live services, resolve faults swiftly, reduce technical debt and share practical knowledge with the wider team.
