About the role
fast-paced digital organisation is hiring a Lead Software Engineer to take ownership of the technical direction for a key product area. This role blends hands-on engineering with leadership, architectural oversight and strategic decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
- Setting the technical direction and engineering strategy for the team
- Leading design decisions across Java, Spring Boot, microservices and APIs
- Ensuring architectural alignment with wider platform goals
- Driving engineering excellence, standards and best practices
- Overseeing CI/CD improvements and DevOps maturity using GitLab
- Working closely with architects, product leadership and stakeholders
- Providing leadership, coaching and technical oversight across the SDLC
- Ensuring solutions are scalable, secure and optimised for AWS
Core Skills Required
- Extensive experience with Java, Spring Boot, Microservices, API design
- Strong architectural and design capability
- Proven experience leading engineering teams or technical delivery
- Deep AWS knowledge and cloud-native design patterns
- Strong communicator able to influence technical direction
- Experience working in Agile delivery teams
- Experience in financial services or regulated environments beneficial
