About the role
About the Company
A well‑established, design‑led Design & Build firm with a strong reputation for delivering high‑quality commercial interiors across London and the South East. With a growing pipeline of complex CAT A, CAT B, refurbishment, and workplace transformation projects up to £15m, the business is expanding its pre‑construction team with a talented and commercially sharp Estimator.
This is a key role within a high‑performing pre‑con function, offering exposure to major projects and long‑term progression.
The Role
As Estimator, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and winning projects. You’ll work closely with design, commercial, and delivery teams to produce accurate, competitive, and compelling tenders that reflect the company’s design‑led approach.
You’ll be involved from early concept through to handover, influencing design decisions, advising on buildability, and ensuring commercial robustness across all bids.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed cost plans, estimates, and tender submissions for D&B projects up to £15m.
- Analyse drawings, specifications, and design information to produce accurate pricing.
- Lead subcontractor procurement during tender stage, including enquiries, comparisons, and negotiations.
- Work collaboratively with the design team to provide cost advice, value engineering options, and buildability input.
- Attend site visits, client meetings, and design workshops to understand project scope and constraints.
- Develop tender programmes, preliminaries, and risk assessments.
- Prepare tender presentations and support the bid team in securing new work.
- Maintain and develop supply chain relationships to ensure competitive and reliable pricing.
- Support handover to delivery teams with clear documentation and commercial rationale.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of estimating processes, cost databases, and tender strategy.
Skills & Experience Required
- Proven experience as an Estimator within Design & Build, commercial fit‑out, or main contracting.
- Strong understanding of CAT A, CAT B, refurbishment, and workplace transformation projects.
- Experience pricing projects up to £10m–£15m (or stepping up from £5m+ with the capability to grow).
- Ability to interpret drawings, specifications, and design information with accuracy.
- Strong supply chain knowledge across London’s interiors market.
- Excellent commercial awareness and analytical skills.
- Confident communicator with the ability to present cost information clearly.
- Proficiency with estimating software and Microsoft Excel.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tenders simultaneously.
- Degree or HNC/HND in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or related discipline (preferred but not essential).
What’s on Offer
- Competitive salary + benefits package.
- Opportunity to join a respected, well‑established D&B contractor with a strong London presence.
- Exposure to major projects up to £15m.
- Clear progression into Senior Estimator or Pre‑Construction Manager roles.
- Collaborative culture with exposure to design, commercial, and delivery teams.
- A diverse portfolio of workplace, commercial, and refurbishment projects.
