About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Full-time Learning Support Assistant to join our team, specializing in Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) support within a secondary school setting. This role is crucial in providing essential support to students with SEMH needs, ensuring they can access the curriculum and thrive in their educational journey.
Key Responsibilities
Provide one-to-one and small group support to students with SEMH needs, tailoring approaches to individual learning styles and requirements.
Collaborate closely with teachers and other staff members to develop and implement effective strategies for supporting SEMH students in the classroom.
Assist in the creation and maintenance of a positive, inclusive learning environment that promotes emotional well-being and academic success.
Monitor and record student progress, maintaining accurate and up-to-date documentation on interventions and outcomes.
Participate in the development and implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and behavior support plans.
Provide emotional support and guidance to students, helping them develop coping strategies and self-regulation skills.
Facilitate social skills groups and workshops to enhance students’ interpersonal abilities and emotional intelligence.
Assist with the implementation of de-escalation techniques and positive behavior management strategies.
Liaise with parents, carers, and external agencies to ensure a holistic approach to student support.
Attend and contribute to team meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities.
Qualifications and Skills
Essential:
Minimum of a Level 3 qualification in a relevant field (e.g., Education, Psychology, or Youth Work)
Proven experience working with secondary school students with SEMH needs
Strong understanding of SEMH challenges and their impact on learning and behavior
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents
Patience, empathy, and a non-judgmental approach
Good organizational and time management skills
Proficiency in using technology to support learning and record-keeping
Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
Desirable:
Degree in Education, Psychology, or a related field
Additional qualifications in SEMH support or interventions
Experience with specific SEMH interventions (e.g., CBT, mindfulness, or art therapy)
Knowledge of SEND Code of Practice and relevant educational policies
First aid certification
