About the role
Milk Education is currently looking for a caring, enthusiastic and committed Learning Support Assistant to join a friendly and inclusive Secondary School in North Manchester. Starting in September, this role would suit someone who is passionate about supporting young people, helping them overcome barriers and encouraging them to reach their academic and personal potential.
This opportunity would be well suited to an experienced Learning Support Assistant or Teaching Assistant, a graduate looking to gain valuable experience before entering the education sector, or someone with transferable experience working with children and young people.
Working alongside class teachers and the SEND team, you will provide individualised support to students with a variety of additional learning needs. You will help create a positive and inclusive classroom environment where students feel supported, confident and able to engage with their learning.
Your Role
As a Learning Support Assistant, you will:
- Provide individual and small group support to students with additional learning needs
- Work closely with teachers to adapt activities and ensure students can access the curriculum
- Support pupils with SEND, SEMH needs and those who require additional classroom assistance
- Encourage students to develop confidence, independence, resilience and a positive attitude towards learning
- Support targeted interventions designed to improve students’ academic, social and emotional development
- Assist teachers with classroom preparation, resources and everyday learning activities
- Provide consistent encouragement and personalised support to help students overcome barriers to learning
- Promote positive behaviour and reinforce the school’s behaviour expectations
- Build positive and professional relationships with students, teachers, parents and carers
- Contribute towards a safe, welcoming and inclusive learning environment, while supporting student wellbeing and safeguarding
We’re Looking For Someone Who:
- Has previous experience working with children or young people in a school, childcare, tutoring, youth work, coaching or similar environment (desirable)
- Has experience supporting students with SEND or additional learning needs (desirable but not essential)
- Is passionate about making a positive difference to the lives of young people
- Has a calm, patient, caring and encouraging approach
- Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Can work effectively as part of a wider school team
- Is flexible, enthusiastic and proactive in their approach
- Is committed to their own professional development and learning
- Understands the importance of safeguarding or is willing to complete the necessary training
- Holds a relevant qualification or degree (desirable but not essential)
