This Senior Embedded Software Engineer job in Cambridge focuses on developing embedded software for the company’s next-generation instrument platform, working across low-level firmware, embedded Linux systems, real-time software, and hardware integration.
What you’ll be doing:- Design and develop embedded software for advanced scientific instrumentation
- Build and maintain bare-metal and RTOS-based firmware for ARM platforms
- Develop low-level drivers for communication protocols such as SPI, I2C, UART, USB, and Ethernet
- Work on embedded Linux applications for system control and data processing
- Develop multi-threaded C applications within embedded environments
- Implement real-time control and signal processing algorithms
- Support board bring-up, debugging, and hardware-software integration
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines for embedded software delivery
- Contribute to testing frameworks and production tooling
- Bare-metal firmware development
- RTOS and Embedded Linux systems
- ARM-based embedded platforms
- SoC integration and programmable logic

- Hardware debugging and validation

- Strong experience with Embedded Linux and RTOS environments
- Advanced understanding of hardware-software interaction
- Experience with board bring-up and hardware integration
- Strong debugging and low-level systems knowledge
- Familiarity with hardware-in-the-loop testing strategies
- Comfortable working across firmware and application-level software
- Biotech, medical device, or life sciences environments
- PCB design or schematic capture tools
- Embedded image processing or machine learning systems
- Qt or embedded GUI development
- Cloud-connected embedded systems
