SEN Teacher – Specialist School
Location: Croydon, CR0 – commutable from South Croydon, Thornton Heath, Purley, Norbury and surrounding areas
Pay: MPS/UPS – Paid to Scale
Start Date: ASAP
Hours: Full-time
Contract: Long-term temporary with potential to become permanent
Long Term Futures is recruiting a Qualified SEN Teacher to join a specialist SEN school in Croydon, CR0, for an immediate start.
This is a specialist SEND setting, not a mainstream school. The successful teacher will work with pupils who require a highly individualised approach to education, adapting teaching around their communication, learning, sensory and emotional needs.
We are looking for a teacher who can combine strong classroom practice with patience, flexibility and a genuine understanding of how to engage pupils who may not thrive within a traditional mainstream environment.
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is essential for this position.
About the Role
As an SEN Teacher, you will:

  • Plan and deliver engaging, highly differentiated lessons for pupils with SEND
  • Adapt curriculum content around individual ability levels and EHCP outcomes
  • Teach small classes with additional Teaching Assistant support
  • Support pupils with needs including Autism, communication difficulties, learning disabilities and complex needs
  • Use visual, sensory and practical approaches to increase pupil engagement
  • Create structured routines and predictable learning environments
  • Monitor and assess academic, social and developmental progress
  • Support pupils with emotional and sensory regulation
  • Implement positive behaviour and de-escalation strategies where required
  • Direct and work collaboratively with SEN Teaching Assistants
  • Liaise with families, SEND professionals and the wider multidisciplinary team
  • Contribute to reviews, individual learning plans and wider school development

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) – essential
  • Previous teaching experience within SEND, specialist education or a similar setting is highly desirable
  • Mainstream teachers with strong SEND experience who are ready to transition into specialist education will also be considered
  • Strong understanding of differentiation and individualised teaching
  • Knowledge of Autism, complex needs and communication difficulties
  • Confident planning from individual starting points rather than relying solely on age-related expectations
  • Experience working with EHCPs and personalised learning outcomes
  • Strong classroom and behaviour management skills
  • Calm, adaptable and resilient approach
  • Comfortable leading and directing classroom support staff
  • Available to start ASAP

About the School

  • Dedicated specialist SEN school in Croydon, CR0
  • Small classes with enhanced adult support
  • Highly individualised curriculum and learning pathways
  • Strong focus on communication, independence and personal development
  • Experienced SEN teaching and support teams
  • Collaborative approach involving education and specialist professionals

Why Work with Long Term Futures?

  • MPS/UPS – Paid to Scale
  • Full-time, long-term specialist teaching opportunity
  • Potential progression into a permanent position
  • Free CPD covering SEND, Autism, Behaviour Management and Safeguarding
