This successful family-owned company supplies equipment and services to customers throughout the UK. Operating via a network of highly trained maintenance and repair engineers they ensure their clients are energy efficient and compliant with legislation. By continuing to deliver excellent customer service this has enabled them to recently move into larger premises, expand their workforce and invest in systems.

As they gear up for further growth, they have created a new opportunity for a Financial Controller to join the business and play a wide role in the company. Working closely with the owners and senior management the Financial Controller will be heavily involved in business decisions and will therefore influence the future direction of the company. Ideally, they would like this person to be an important part of their long term plans and as such envisage the successful candidate to become Finance Director within a two year period.

This is therefore an exciting opportunity for an experienced and ambitious accountant to make their mark in a growing, entrepreneurial business. This position will involve managing the finances for the company, providing financial reporting and analysis, supporting decision making, driving out cost and improving efficiency. The business is currently at £6m t/o and relies on their external accountant, they are now looking to bring this “in house” so applicants must be comfortable developing and improving existing systems and reports and, with support from a small team, undertaking the full range of finance duties associated with an SME. Typically this will include:

• Preparing the monthly management accounts and month end close.

• Developing detailed budgets and forecasts to support growth

• Implementing KPI’s and providing analysis on performance

• Ensuring accurate reporting on stock, labour and WIP

• Analysis of customer / project profitability

• Maintaining robust financial controls and processes to minimise risk

• Overseeing sales and purchase ledger transactional activities, payroll etc.

• Prepare year end stat accounts and liaise with HMRC, banks etc

• Continuous improvement of SAGE 200 and job management software

• Responsible for commercial discussions: leases, fleet, insurances etc.

The ability to positively challenge and multi-task between business improvement projects will be essential qualities for this position as you will be expected to initiate and deliver change to support the strategic objectives of the business. The ideal candidate for the Financial Controller position would have a high level of comfort with ERP Systems, the ability to export and analyse data in Excel and translate this into something meaningful for non-finance managers. The position would suit an experienced Accountant / Finance Manager who would enjoy a varied role where their efforts have a real impact all levels within the business.
