About the role

Job summary

The Built Estates Manager (BEM) role is key to enabling Dstl to respond in an agile manner to customer demands. You will be the key decision-maker about the allocation of buildings to science and technology (S&T) projects.

You will have a high-level understanding of the condition of all our buildings and outdoor facilities across both the Porton Down and Portsdown West sites and be able to authoritatively determine the suitability of any given facility for proposed S&T projects.

Job description

In this role you will be responsible for and lead on the delivery of the Dstl Operating Model to enable dynamic allocation of space to meet S&T needs.

You will work closely with colleagues in the Head of Establishment (HoE) function as well as those in the Portfolio Office to determine space allocation. You will also have an understanding the current use of the facilities across both sites and have final say on the suitability of facilities for proposed S&T use.

Person specification

We are looking for someone who has extensive experience working in a built environment. You will have substantial experience of interpreting and understanding building condition surveys.

You will also have experience of interpreting and understanding safe operating procedures for buildings, including high hazard buildings.

Qualifications

Essential:
• MSc, Degree or HND in an infrastructure or facilities management related subject.
• Risk management qualification such as Institute of Risk Management level 3 or above or equivalent.
• H&S qualification i.e. NEBOSH Certificate in Construction

Full membership of relevant professional body e.g. RICS / IWFM
