Remuneration: £12,000 + £5,000 Chair allowance per annum

The Greater London Authority (GLA) is London’s strategic, city-wide governing body. Unlike borough councils, the GLA does not deliver most local services directly; instead, it provides leadership and long term vision for the capital across a range of areas, whilst representing the interests of Londoners and shaping the capital’s economic, social and environmental future.

The GLA brings together two core political components: The Mayor of London, who acts as the executive leader, responsible for setting London wide strategies and making key decisions, and the London Assembly, which is made up of 25 elected members, and holds the Mayor of London to account by scrutinising strategies, decisions, policies and the budget.

In advance of statutory requirements, introduced through the English Devolution and Community Empowerment Act 2026, the Mayor of London is now establishing a new Audit Committee. The Committee will play a central role in strengthening governance, financial oversight, risk management, internal control, audit assurance and value for money across the GLA, whilst providing assurance to the Mayor of London.

As Chair of the Audit Committee, you will play a key role in establishing and leading the Committee, helping to shape a strong culture of accountability, transparency and continuous improvement.

We are seeking an individual with strong experience of audit, risk, governance or financial oversight. Experience of chairing an Audit Committee, or serving as a senior member of an audit and risk committee, is highly desirable. Above all, you will have the credibility, judgement and professional standing to provide robust challenge and assurance within one of the UK’s most visible public bodies.

Whilst a financial management background is preferable, it is vital that candidates possess strong political acumen, and the ability to navigate a complex stakeholder environment, whilst working under high levels of scrutiny.
