Test Development Engineer, Automated Test Equipment

Test Development Engineer, Automated Test Equipment   Based in Bolton   Salary up to £40,500 + Bonus, Overtime, Pension   A brand new, in-house developed, multi-functional test core is being integrated into the production line here, and they need someone who can specialise in it from day one. This is not a maintenance role, you would be shaping how circuit card assemblies get tested as the capability is built out.   You will sit between design and manufacturing, building a genuinely deep understanding of the test systems from both a hardware and software angle, and driving improvements through the right stakeholder channels. Once you are established, there is scope to widen out into other subsystems too, so this is a long-term technical challenge rather than a narrow brief.   Day to day, you will design and support Automated Test Equipment (ATE), work with analogue and digital circuit designs, and produce the schematics, PCB layouts and engineering drawings that keep the test capability moving forward. When something goes wrong, you will dig into root cause and put corrective actions in place that actually stick.   You will need British citizenship, or dual UK nationality with British citizenship, for this one. BPSS clearance is required after offer, so it's worth knowing that upfront.   What you will need:

• Degree qualified, or equivalent industry experience
• Significant experience designing or supporting Automated Test Equipment (ATE)
• Solid grounding in analogue and digital circuit design fundamentals
• Experience producing and working from technical documentation, schematics, PCB layouts and engineering drawings
• Strong investigative skills, comfortable finding root cause and proposing corrective actions that hold up
• Confident written and verbal communication, negotiating and influencing across a multi-disciplinary team
• Comfortable working autonomously and leading your own work assignments through to delivery

Desirable:

• NI LabVIEW and/or TestStand
• Boundary Scan or XJTAG
• Experience supporting manufacturing or resolving manufacturing issues

This role also carries some commercial weight, managing discrete work packages, preparing bids and keeping costs under control, so previous exposure to that side of test engineering is a genuine plus.   It is largely site-based, four to five days a week, reflecting the nature of the equipment and the work.
