Forest Moor School is seeking a dedicated Classroom Teacher to deliver a high-quality, nurture-based thematic curriculum to pupils with SEMH needs.

Forest Moor School is a Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) school based at Menwith Hill, just outside of Harrogate. Our aim is to provide the best possible care and education that we can for children and young people with SEMH needs. Unconditional Positive Regard is at the centre of what we do and we are an academy that is welcoming, caring, safe, warm and believes that all its pupils can be supported and empowered to succeed.

In this role, you will lead curriculum delivery in a specialist setting, building positive professional relationships grounded in unconditional positive regard. You will work alongside a collaborative, multi-disciplinary team to create individual learning plans, remove barriers to learning and support pupil reintegration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Creative Curriculum Delivery: Plan and teach a thematic curriculum tailored to pupils' needs, including potential qualifications up to GCSE level.

  • Targeted Assessment: Baseline assess pupils alongside the SENCO to establish specialist Pupil Profiles and individual learning plans.

  • Pastoral & Leadership Support: Act as a cohort tutor, supervise support staff, and liaise closely with senior managers and care teams.

Requirements

  • Qualifications: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS / QTLS) is essential.

  • Experience: Proven experience developing and monitoring learning and behaviour programmes for young people with specific support needs. English subject knowledge would be a bonus

  • Knowledge: Sound understanding of current social inclusion approaches, SEN/SEMH legislation and barriers facing young people at risk of exclusion.

  • Core Skills: Outstanding communication skills, strong teamworking abilities, and high levels of versatility, creativity and personal resilience.

This position would suit individuals who are passionate about making a real difference to students’ life chances and supporting them in achieving their potential in essential life skills and qualification routes, both of which are a high priority here at Forest Moor.
